It will be interesting to see the post mortem on the democrat side. I am still not convinced that very many people were really FOR Trump. I think it is a blended cocktail of change, Clinton hate, and racism. Probably in that order. Trump tapped into the same feelings that Bernie did and wanting change. The how's, why's, and who's were irreverent. Status quo sucks, anything else is worth a shot. A lot of the Bernie votes didn't come home to Clinton and went to Trump. Second, the national media and Clinton herself under-estimated how many people really don't like her. Nothing in her debates changed that notion, she still came across as insincere and elitist. Lastly, whether you like it or not, there is a minority percentage of new Trump supporters that sprung up out of racism. Pissed off that the demographics are turning, pandering is moving to minority votes, and they had to endure a black president. The optimist in me thinks it is a small percentage, but it is most likely why he had such a large white turnout this time. Of course, there is a percentage that just likes Trump or votes republican no matter what. As others said, big turnarounds like this are never pointing to a single issue. Exit poll data will be interesting to digest.

Reading all this almost makes me want to go find a 2008 or 2012 forum about the politics and then say "how does the other shoe fit"? '08 and '12 the reds were screaming bloody murder and now in '16 the blue is screaming bloody murder...surprised? I'm not.

I would love to see Trump totally eliminate the EPA. The liberal s**t storm that would create would be popcorn worthy. I can just see it now. Thousands of hippies and tree huggers hugging and crying in the streets. It would be glorious.

Getting extra defensive. Getting tired of being called a racist, bigot, women hater, or idiot because I didn't like Clinton. The tolerant, inclusive liberals are out in full force today, showing their true colors.

This country's test wasn't Election Night. It's the morning after.
And seeing Americans still going after each other with the same blood-thirstiness and self-righteousness only let's me know that nothing has changed and we've failed yet again. Our leaders aren't dividing us. They're only reflecting the divisions we've created amongst ourselves. We've had our chances to build bridges and instead we've built walls. And it's a shame because 330 million Americans on the same team would transcend even greatness. . . . . . Alright, it's been fun. But the real world and quest to build the best life I can for my family is calling. I'll see you cranky bald eagles in another four years. Frenzy out.

I still find it hilarious that Hillary lost. She probably thought she had this in the bag, that this whole election cycle was for her, it was her turn, her time to be POTUS, first woman. Ha. Eat it Billary.

yeah man, i'm not trying to attack anybody. i felt that it was a very interesting statistic. I also thought the unemployment rate would flip overwhelmingly blue and was shocked that wasn't generally the case at all.

Can't feel good. She lost to a black guy with a funny name and reality TV star that says outrageous things. I wonder if it is finally setting in. Maybe people really don't like me?

She is probably the only candidate that couldn't beat Trump, because so many people (myself included) don't like her.

I did that after the fact, when he decided to take it personal with me.
Up until his personal attck, I thought he had been pretty decent, just differing opinions.

It will be interesting to see how he chooses to govern. It's easy to promise to shake up the status quo in Washington on the campaign trail, doing so is incredibly difficult, if not impossible. He's going to have to deal with a skeptical GOP Congress and it remains to be seen how supportive they're going to be when it comes to supporting his agenda. Additionally he'll have to deal with huge, unwieldy bureaucracies with their own agendas and constituencies and corrosive special interest groups with wheel barrels full of cash. I remember what the day after election day felt like for Obama supporters in 2008 and I also remember the sadness and disappointment of watching those lofty campaign platforms get compromised and neutered by a Washington establishment that had no interest in reform. Perhaps Trump will fare better in that respect, but I suspect he won't. |

I am in agreement that the far right is likely not getting the Trump they are hoping for in getting their social agenda forwarded. Very few likely have any idea how he will come down on marijuana, lgbt issues, etc. I think he is going to be far more moderate on issues as some people here have suggested. More things will certainly get done now that both chambers and the President-elect are from the same party. However it may not be all of the things that certain factions of Congress and the Senate want. It will take some analysis by people far more politically savvy than I am, but will last night's results calm the in-fighting that has surfaced in the Republican party the last few years?
One thing that I found glaringly absent in this thread is the fact that, in spite of how many people here (myself included) wanted to shake things up by voting third party, neither of the serious third party candidates will end up receiving 5% of the popular vote. They will not be able to get the benefits that come with that threshold. The country is stuck with the 2-party system that more than a couple of people on this thread were clamoring to expand.

This is a great point. She obviously figured that she had Wisconsin in the bag, as Wisconsin hasn't gone republican in a presidential election since 1984. She thought so little of Wisconsin that she didn't show up once after the primaries. She sent Chelsea, and Bill and Tim Kaine, but not her, whereas Trump was here 5 times. Obviously the polls and her intel were wrong.

Lets not pretend like the liberals are reacting any worse than the alt right would be reacting if the opposite happened. The alt right and the hard left are both what's wrong with this country.

Unfortunately, the Bachelors degree is the equivalent of an AA nowadays. It's not impressive, nor does it determine that a person is "educated". Most of the time it just means you have been exposed to a liberal mindset and have adopted it. I really don't take that whole "educated" vote statistic serious, but that's my opinion.

Students walk out of class to protest Trump | 9news.com ( Sent from 9NEWS ) Spoiled Boulder kids probably had to watch mom and dad peel off their Clinton stickers from the family Subaru. If Clinton won, kids wouldn't be walking out of class. |
