Default Frank Thomas player collection - Thoughts for selling

I'm looking for a little help. I have a large Frank Thomas collection that I'm thinking about selling. It's 1,635 cards with no dupes. My best guess is that it books for around $7,000.

Any suggestions on how to sell If I decide to let it go? I've always been a buyer on eBay so I don't have any real selling feedback. I would also like to sell it as a collection.

Thanks for any feedback.

If you are looking to sell it all at once, you can look here to see who else collects Big Hurt cards besides myself:

http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/b...lect-list.html

Also, there is a guy on another forum that is a super collector, but I am guessing he probably already has most or everything that you have, so he may not be interested. I can email you his info if you would like.

Another option is to join the Frank Thomas collector group on Facebook and see if anyone there has interest.

I'd be interested in your inserts and parallels from roughly 93-96 if you're breaking up

I would think you have two problems.

1. If you sell it as a lot only a reseller will buy it and their buying price is going to be very low.

2. There are no "new" Thomas collectors so any current collectors out there probably have the majority of these cards already so they will only want to buy singles.

As with most collections- you are going to look at the total investment that you made as a price that you want met. A buyer does not have your emotional "investment" into the collection so very few, if any, are going to match your price.

I agree with just about all of this. Except the last part as he may have bought many of these when Thomas played and there was more demand. I find Thomas inserts in 10 cent and 25 cent bargain bins on a regular basis, so going off of his purchase price as a collector may even kill any chance at a deal. Unfortunately, unless he has a ton of hard-to-find inserts, he will likely get a fraction of what he spent.

If I was going to sell a large collection. I'd pull out the cards that are worth over $20 each and try and sell them separately.

Anything else I'd take what I could get. I have a binder of like 600 Thomas cards. If I was to sell it, I'd be surprised if I got over $100 for it.

Do more research. There are a lot more Thomas collectors out there than there are on BO. I suggest joining the Frank Thomas Collectors Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/531305533627397/

Usual rules seem to apply for selling a collection, though. If you want top dollar, breaking it up and selling the best cards individually should bring the best prices. If you force people to buy 1000 commons to get the 20 best cards, expect to practically give those 1000 away, if you can find a buyer.

What are the 20 best cards, BTW? With that many in the collection, you are bound to have some spicy ones.

I gave this some more thought, and decided it would be best if you donated these to the poor (i.e. me). You can even write them off on your taxes, but I cannot guarantee that it would pass an audit.
