and how many loopholes do you take advantage of? I'm not trying to sound condescending, I'm genuinely curious what loopholes people take advantage of if they are completely legal.

lots of people never talk to anyone about such loopholes. one loophole I know of and don't have a problem sharing this, is the 1031 tax exchange - completely legal and doesn't screw anyone over.

anyone else care to share any info?

I have no idea. I pay someone to do my taxes. I donate whatever I'm told to donate to lower my tax burden. I provide whatever documentation is asked for by them. I max out 401k, HSA, dependent care, and whatever other pretax simple work related spend I can.

The crap of it is, that's money I would be using elsewhere if the federal government wasn't trying so hard to steal from me. Instead, I have to jump through ridiculous hoops to get that money back. My dependent care account has been switched from one reimbursement joint to another. I've gone from just needing a receipt to get MY money back to now I've got to submit the receipt (from the school) to filling out 2 forms, the receipt and having the school representative sign one of the forms... It's absurd.

The tax code is onerous and only benefits those that have the time and fortitude to game the system. It's rigged for the very rich and very poor. Everyone in the middle gets a lube free prostate exam.

Sounds like she was joking, and everyone present understood the joke. Non-story if this is the big surprise.

Big difference between a public call to a bunch of lunatics and a private joke to people with the cognitive abilities to comprehend the flavor.

ETA: I'm not saying ALL Trump supporters are lunatics, ftr. Just that there are plenty of them out there.

This is just an article from the Examiner this morning. I think the surprise(s) will be much worse.

Trump?s Tax (Avoidance) Plan - NYTimes.com

The following statement was made by my buddy. He is one of the smartest guys I know.

"Trump's tax plan should cause national outrage, nevermind his own history of tax avoidance. Any middle class person looking up to Trump for working the system should remember that they're the ones footing the bill. If the government wasn't so broke from these shenanigans maybe there would have been more support for a payroll tax cut extension, something that would help most people. Instead Jim Bob is marveling at how "smart" Trump is to use a system that was set up for him to begin with. Too many Americans think that they'll be millionaires someday, which is why they stand for the coddling of millionaires."

How many actually pay it and not have tax havens overseas?

Both Haiku and Trump are:

- The butt of tons of jokes

- Revered by some despite carrying out the largest of scams

- Kisses up to the constituency at first

- Being rich somewhere off the swindled money of others

Awesome.

America's citizens also lead the world in being ignorant to what the difference is between statutory and effective rates.. But...I guess it was shared on facebook so it must be meaningful.

It’s also incorrect to suggest that U.S. corporations are competitively disadvantaged compared with our peers in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Although the United States’ 35 percent statutory corporate tax rate is the second highest among OECD members, its effective corporate rate (after allowing for deductions, credits, depreciation and tax-advantaged foreign domiciles) falls in line with those of other developed economies. According to the Congressional Research Service, the weighted effective corporate tax rate (accounting for different tax systems and the relative sizes of the economies among these nations) for OECD nations overall is 27.7 percent, and in the United States it’s 27.1 percent.

Just like a lot of things Trump has said.
It's fairly obvious to most people when he's being sarcastic, but the media (you know, the one that loves Hillary) just loves to take his comments out of context.

So it's the shenanigans from Trump that causes the gov't to be broke. Hahaha. Yes the gov't is so responsible with the money they get from us, if only they could get more, then everything would be hunky dory.

Your buddy could be a bright guy, but this statement is not evidence of it.

Oh man, the new Hillary commercials on the History channel are Trump saying all sorts of mean things about women's looks and while they show young girls of all shapes and sizes looking at themselves in mirrors. Her ad people are knocking it out of the park so far.

A case could be made that if Trump's comments are so offensively damaging to people, why are Hillary's campaign people airing them over and over again?
Are they really interested in protecting said people, or are they continuing the damage by playing the comments over and over again solely for political purposes, hurt feelings be damned?
