Default Change in Topps Redemptions

Hey guys, I know there are a lot of big breakers on here so you're probably waiting on a bunch of Star Wars redemptions (I have like 25 dual auto redemptions outstanding for chrome 2). Anyway today I got a new e-mail that says I can link my topps.com account with my redemptions account (prior to this it was separate accounts).

When you do this (and I heavily recommend it since you can link multiple and there were no password requirements on redeem.topps.com) you will have a button next to each outstanding redemption that is older than a few months. The button is to request a substitution card that Topps values at market value (ebay + beckett they say).

The interface is a thousand times better.

So I did this for a ton of outstanding sports baseball cards I've been waiting years on, you might want to do this for your star wars and whatever non-sports you have if you'd rather gamble than wait even longer.

I'll attempt to post the e-mail here:

Just merged them now and it was pretty easy.
Seems like a good move by Topps to do this.

It was super easy. I opted for some substitutions on old football redemptions that I've given up on. I'm going to hold off on my Chrome II Duals though. I saw that they were finally going to print them soon (ha ha...I actually believe that!).

I linked mine yesterday. I don't really understand Topps redemptions as I am still waiting on 3 Sterling redemptions of Mark Montgomery/Tyler Austin. Both had solo autographs in that set and they were signed and went out in boxes. I think this was a 2014 Sterling set. If they could sign their individual cards, why can't they sign the duals in 2 years especially when they were on the same minor league team.

I would love to see what Topps gives as a substitute for the Star Wars Force Awakens 1 Mystery redemption. But since they never "officially" said what it was going to be I suppose it will never get this far as they can fulfill the redemption with any Star Wars card they wish. I wonder if they would take the ebay prices it has sold for into consideration if that ends up being the case. Would ebay prices for an unknown redemption card even be considered "fair market value"? To me they would, but to the company that has to fulfill those redemptions, I'm guessing they wouldn't .

Topps said on their Facebook page that they are going to announce news about the Mystery Redemption after Celebration Europe and SDCC. This was in the discussion on the Star Wars release calendar.

So Topps will see who's autographs they can get at CE and SDCC and then come up with a substitution

I had an old redemption from American Pie that didn't migrate when I updated. It is the only outstanding one I had. I haven't really dealt
with Topps that much, what's the best way to contact them about this?

"subtutution"?

Is that like when a submarine gets a special teacher or "tutor" for the sailors since they have been away so long?

Peace, Mike

When Topps lost their Basketball license years back I "fondly" remember a friend receiving a replacement for every outstanding redemption he had for basketball. What'd he get? Spud Webb auto's, lots and lots and lots of Spud Webb auto's. I do not recall the exact number but it was a fairly impressive stack. I am curious about the ultimate fate of the Star Wars Mystery Redemption because that thing was hitting 2k at one point. That better be one hell of a sub.

Well they'd have to make it insane. I mean for 2 grand that is a LOT of sw's auto's or some heavy hitters. Problem is they don't HAVE the heavy hitters (mcgregor, portman, jackson, the ones who won't do more signings) and the market for the old heavy hitters (fisher, hammil, ford) keeps going down because they keep signing. Should be interesting how it plays out.

Even if they sub ford, ford isn't a 2k autograph anymore. They sub a fisher, man she signs at cons for like 100 bucks. That's a bad trade.

I was under the impression she never signed a deal with Topps, they pulled her from the checklist, then she signed with Steiner. Depending on the deal she signed, she can't sign for Topps.

Ford is still a $2,000+ card as long as it's a Topps Star Wars card

Also do we know how many Mystery Redemption cards were made?

My guess based on how many I have seen and assuming several more that were pulled and never posted and ones that may still be pulled, my guess would be between 30-50.

With that many, I highly doubt they would do Ford

It would be nice if they did a random of several nice cards. Maybe a few Fords, then some nice duals, triples and/or quad autos

In the SW world, a low print run of even the worst 4 characters would have high value. I realize this is not what people want, but it is better than the alternative we are fearing!

The main guests at celebration are mark hamill and Carrie fisher. Daisy Ridley isn't listed to attend and Lucasfilm isn't going to SDCC

Hopefully this change was spurred on by discussions of a Class Action Lawsuit for failure to provide the promised items thousands of times over several years. But still expect the replacement items to be garbage because Topps is not going to take the time or effort to be fair and honest with substitutions. I have had 2 redemption codes waiting for years now and refused to call Topps and beg for a sub. Be sure to post here when you get a substitution so we can see what Topps is doing.

To anyone interested in this, I exchanged a dual 2015 chrome auto of d'Abo and Futterman for "random cards" per their letter. What I got for the substitution was this:

Topps High Tek Matthew Wood Gold Auto
2015 Jedi Vs Sith chrom /99 refractor of Quigon

I think it was a fair assessment. I know the wood doesn't go for much and it's only a single auto but, then again, the dual wasn't a huge hit either.

They say you get a few extra cards, my baseball subs I got really lucky on! Bryant and Giolito and soler autos!
