C'mon Man!!
Because math. Alabama has over 100 appearance less than OSU. Each championship is worth 10, five extra championships is only 50 points. The data shows that Alabama has more peaks and valleys, but OSU is consistently winning more.

This.

It's like people didn't even bother to read how they assigned points.

Is 10 points too little for a Championship? That we can argue to death.

But this poll isn't opinion. It's arithmetic.

The logic for assigning point values is what is potentially flawed.

It is fundamentally flawed due to overvaluing votes on the poll. Like I said above, many of these teams are chronically overrated and manage to lose at least one game they had no business losing, yet someone wind up high again after they rattle off more wins, I suspect a lot of the AP voters keep those teams high to justify their earlier votes which skews this data terribly IMO.

This poll is incorrect, I'm a Canes fan and even I know Bama has been the best team for the better part of College Football. The same type of people who rank Brady as GOAT because of championships are the same in here saying that Bamas championships doesnt make them greatest. 2 of the best coaches you'll ever remember are Bear Bryant and Nick Saban.
Except several of Alabama's championships are not real. They weren't won on the field. 4 of Alabama's 5 pre Bowl Alliance championships are disputed. When polls weren't done after Bowl Games (losses by #1), when teams like Notre Dame skipped Bowls or you ended seasons with multiple undefeated teams, those mythical championships have no meaning. Even in the 90s Nebraska claims 3 championships, but 2 are disputed. Alabama is the best program of the BCS era, not the AP poll era.

Totally agree... even as an Ohio State fan I wouldn't say these point values make a lot of sense

It just irritates me when people say "Alabama is clearly better. They have X amount of titles compared to Y amount of titles" when they aren't addressing the actual poll that was run and how the point totals were calculated.

If you want to say NC's should be worth 50? Totally valid and that's where the discussion should start. Not just saying "The poll is wrong!" when it's math.

I find it hilarious because it gets the SEC nation's panties in a bunch.

All correct except for Ohio State was also voted the top program in the BCS era.

Ohio State is number one in history because in most decades they were either playing for national championships, or they were in the running. Ohio State's worst decade they were still in the polls 55% of the time. They are the most consistent team.

Its hilarious to see people complaining over the article because its the AP instead of a bias eSECpn poll LOL.
I could care less who created the article. You missed the point altogether apparently.

Interestingly I watched college football live today on ESPN. They said they thought Notre Dame should be number 1.

Its been 80 yrs since Notre Dame last beat Ohio State

I'm thinking Florida should be #1 since they have never lost to Ohio State. But this would upset South Carolina fans since they are in the same situation.

No biggy. Both teams sucked that year. Buckeyes lost all those key players due to tattoos.

Florida's last bowl game. Michigan 41
Florida 7

True....2006 was a different story.

Florida 41
Ohio State (#1 going into bowls) 14

FTR, I'm not even a Florida fan. I just find it comical that they have ownage over the Buckeyes in football and basketball.

Because they played a whole 2 times? lol
You need to look into your history. Florida was not even relevant before the 90's. If they would've played the Buckeyes during the Woody Hayes yrs, the Buckeyes would've spanked Florida every time. Theres a good reason why Florida just barely cracked the top 10.

I hate Ohio state, can't stand Ohio. They're good but number 1? Ehh
I hate Michigan , the color blue or yellow. BUT they do have a really good program
After what Alabama did to my Spartans last year lol, they've always been good. Legit contender for that #1

Honestly to see Michigan state that high is great (for me as a fan)

But this list could be improved

It's not my history. I'm not a Florida fan (already covered that earlier). But until OSU beats Florida on the field, the Gators own them.

This cracks me up.

The points assigned could be improved is what you meant to say.

The math is pretty accurate.

Doesn't matter that you're not a Florida fan. You're trolling Ohio State, so you must be a Buckeyes hater.

Ohio State would've destroyed Florida if they played last year.

By your silly logic Michigan owns Ohio State. Get a life.

Uh oh...someone is becoming a wee bit salty! Chill dude, some day Ohio State will get a chance to play the Gators and may just end the 0-fer streak they have going. I wouldn't get all worked up over it.
