The short answer is no. "Most of these kids would be on the street far earlier" Also no, I'd like to know where you got this info or if you just made it up.

Still waiting to hear how it increases crime

http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED452292.pdf <-- brief paper on welfare effects on children

Here's another one http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.1086/...n_tab_contents

The poor guy wants to work and no one will hire him. We would need to make sure the job market is there for them. There has been significant rise in the amount of mental health diagnosis recently in children. I would like to see the ratio between adults vs children on welfare.

Also, those us that work are not slaves to those on entitlement programs. That's a bit dramatic of a statement. If you want to change the system, I encourage you to volunteer. Maybe you could start a club that teaches inner city boys the importance of growing up to be respectable young men. Or, a job placement group. It's probably harder for someone in poverty to get a job than it is someone with a middle class background.
I appreciate the advice of volunteering. Considering our church serves meals quite often for the homeless as well as being a Prokids volunteer, I do my part. Do you?

A person in poverty can get a job. Do not convince yourself otherwise. There are hiring signs everywhere. I have many clients that run businesses and complain often that people simply do not want to work.

There is a lack of pride among MANY of those receiving welfare. It's easier to sit home and allow the government to support you. Welfare was setup to be temporary assistance. Now, it's become a lifeline that people do not get off of.

Mental health issues in kids are rising, I agree. One way to address that is to take a realistic look at ADHD. We need to call that what it is: bad parenting. Schools don't want to deal with those kids, so they diagnose them ADHD and sedate them with drugs. Autism is an issue and I do hope that continued research will lead us to the cause.

Pull the kids from the homes and place them into the system. Children should not be raised by individuals doing drugs.

But...but.....but..... We need to continue to support then through good stamps, housing, medicaid etc etc. We also need to throw wasted money into drug treatment since it's a "disease".

Gimme a break

Yeah, the government takes a small cut of my paycheck to pay for basic expenses for people who don't have food and shelter. Totally the same as being somebody else's property, with no rights or legal protections.

Yes, I volunteer often. Tell me more about Prokids, please. I don't think we have that in my area. I am going to be volunteering every Tuesday morning during the school year at my M-I-L church. They just took over the breakfast program. I also volunteer at the local women's shelter.

Not all ADHD is bad parenting. It can be a secondary condition related to autism. Also, sometimes a history of trauma presents as ADHD. We need to better identify the root cause of things and great each child on an individual level. My oldest has a sensory processing disorder and I have done a significant amount if research into it. I am amazed at how often it mimics other disorders like autism and adhd. I do agree though that some parents often look for the easy way out of over medicating but I have also seen the kids that need it to function.

I wonder how he got the free education. I don't think "slave" has the right to go to school.

"A person who is the property of someone and forced to work for them"

Well, I'd say I'm closer to a slave than the people crying about slavery today. Wouldn't you? I work and am FORCED to give some of my WORK money to people who sit around and do nothing. The concept isn't much different.

So part of the whole, "test for welfare" argument is the money it would save. I'd argue taking children and putting them into "the system" would cost way more. Also, what is "the system?" Foster care isn't some glorious thing. There have been plenty of examples of foster families being worse than the families they were taken from.

I agree with Josie, invest in drug treatment centers and maybe require a person who tests positive for drugs to enter one of those. Ripping families apart only guarantees that the welfare recipient will probably spiral further down, the child is now with some foster family which may be worse for them, and we have increased the money we spend in this specific situation.

I don't think you can get much worse than a drug addict as a parent. Drug treatment centers do not have 100% success like you folks want to believe. If the parents want their kids back, WORK for them. Show some darn effort. Get a job and get clean. If not? Your kids deserve better than you.

Too bad. You are paying for other kids' education. And when they don't do well in school, they will be another bottom feeders who suck your future paycheck.

Some positive indicators for HRC...

Bovada (-215)
FiveThirtyEight (52/48)
Predictwise (67/33)

I still think HRC wins by 5+ come November.

My parents are foster parents. They have had 2 sisters with them for a 5-6 months now. they recently just accepted their brother in. all different dads. instead of the "mom" fighting to get all her kids back, she just wanted her son. and the state did just that. left the sisters and gave the mom the boy

I would rather my tax money go to a boarding school for kids then provide a means for their parents to mooch off of the system while doing drugs.

I agree completely. They will drag the schools down as well which will have a negative impact on my property value.

Some positive indicators for Trump...

RealClearPolitics - Election 2016 - General Election: Trump vs. Clinton

I wonder what the early odds were for Hillary?

Found it...

With the Republican Convention in full swing, we are seeing the presidential odds start to tighten. After an extended period of Hillary Clinton holding a dominant lead – according to the odds - Donald Trump has begun to close the gap.

Bet on the Presidential Election at Bovada

Leading into the Republican Convention, Trump has moved up to +200 from +280 in less than a two-week span. That span has seen Trump name Mike Pence as his running mate – a move that was not even on the radar just a month ago. Pence – who has described himself as “Rush Limbaugh on decaf” – gives Trump an insider with plenty of experience working within the government.

While Trump’s odds have been rising, Clinton’s have been falling. The Democratic nominee has seen her odds go from -340 to -240 between July 6 and July 19. There is still plenty of speculation as to whom Clinton will select as her running mate.

Hillary was in the -400 range and 75/25 on Predictwise. RCP will change back to Hillary once the DNC is over.

You should move to place where you don't need to pay much local tax. Place with bad school system and high crime should be your first choice.
