Unfortunately the majority of people do not do the same thing. People get worked up over stuff that has absolutely no impact on their life. They get offended over things that are insignificantly minor and of no consequence.

It sucks, many times people have way to much time on their hands and really at the end of the day people should really treat others with more respect and courtesy than they do.

BUT.

A business has to operate in the world we live in. The reality of the situation is that this persons comments reflect negatively on the business. And as an employee your only job is not to screw with the employers cost-benefit analysis of your compensation.

Maybe it's a steep price to pay for an idiotic comment. But someone has to pay for it. Either the employer or the employee and I know whose going to foot the bill 100% of the time in that scenario.
