We are looking to change our AT&T DSL service to something faster with a good price.
We purely want an internet service and not a bundle with other services. We have been paying ~$60/month and average ~5mbps downloads and ~0.7mbps uploads. Any suggests are welcome. Thank you.

Verizon FIOS if it's available - nothing beats it IMO
Not sure what Cable services you have out there, but we have Cox and Comcast in my area for high speed internet also. |

I switched from Time Warner to Fioptics. Fioptics is not very good. Nowhere close to the speeds they claim

Yah, hate to suggest getting in bed with Comcast but cable is usually your best bet for speed and reliability.

I have no issues with TWC. That said, we will see how Charter runs them now.

here is my comcast stats.. I'm connected to wifi in my detached garage right now so I am sure if I was in the house or on ethernet it would be even faster..
52.23 down and 11.56 up... kinda overkill but i am not complaining im about to drop my triple play but i think the last time i was just internet from them it was about 80 a month |

TWC has good Internet but about the worst customer service ever.

Thanks for the insightful post...
![]() I've had AT&T UVerse for internet for like 10 years now. I get 30 down and 5 up. Unlike many other companies they actually provide the speeds that they advertise. I very very rarely have problems with my service and if I do they are pretty quick to help. I've had TWC before as well and they are probably the worst company on the face of the planet. Their connections drop all the time it seemed like someone was coming to my house every other week and they have the worst customer service imaginable. Plus, you don't get anywhere close to the speeds they advertise

If your service is set up correctly from the pole outside to your house, and inside your house, you will enjoy reliable service. If one of those things is set up incorrectly, chances are you're in for a 'fun' time on the phone and with your service appointments. Unfortunately, however, AT&T is, in general, slower than most cable companies, but this won't be true in ALL locations. Also, in general, if your cable guy is decent (the one who comes out to do the initial setup) you're likely to have less issues long term than you will with AT&T. |

I believe windstream has them beat on that, but also has terrible internet.

My U-Verse has been excellent and I suppose I'm lucky that I was in one of their test areas for their new fiber service

They do have the best cable Internet speeds. Our double play promotion just expired and we took another promotion, the X1 Triple play. We don't use the phone, but the $119.99 per month is cheaper than our double play. And the equipment and HD fees are included, unlike our other plan. Blast speed is regularly 50-60m download. And we can now talk to our remote. As noted above, I don't think I could possibly recommend Comcast. We simply have no other options for both TV and Internet. Received my email notification of monthly bill last week. It was way too high, so I went to my online account of over 15 years. My account was locked until I confirmed voice pin. (note: we don't use the voice that came with the new plan we started last month) I requested the pin by phone only to find that the call was to the landline. We don't have phone nor will get one. Once selected, I couldn't request another way. The online chat feature wouldn't load. I had to call. First person reset the pin feature, so I requested by email. Then I see the email address is some system generated Comcast address that I have never even seen before. I was told it was generated when I became a customer, though it was never set up and not listed in my account preferences. The rep couldn't give me the pin nor change the number or email. Even though my cell is on my account and the number used to verify my account. And my actual email address is on my account and my logon name. I'm now awaiting my pin through postal mail. The only screen I could access was my account preferences. I told the rep to look at the screen and read my phone and email info and compare to their pin communication. I had the rep read my statement, because I can't even access it. Silly part: had I not signed for paperless which saves them money I would have a statement in hand. Other than 54 minutes on the phone the whole situation is a comical catch 22. Two options I cant even access. Last edited by fullmetal; 05-21-2016 at 11:17 AM. |

Long story short, we were told some installers do not like running new lines to a home so they will simply no-show and lie. They cancelled before they began and still 2 months later have not gotten their 1st month bill paid back to them. Time Warner makes all customers pay the first bill up front before they install. I canceled my service as well for what they put my parents through. Low an behold, that was a nightmare as well. They were still billing me or service AFTER I turned in my equipment and paid the final bill. Horrid company. |
