I'm not sure if I blame Gordon for this one, Barry might be more than just a batting coach in Miami

If we look back, it kind of makes sense. When he was like 24, 25, he was struggling. Then his numbers jumped up to all star level. Then out of nowhere he wins batting title.

He just got that 50 mill contract though. So i guess thats why people do it

Wow, didn't expect that. Guess I'm not surprised though.

I really liked him, and leaned on him a lot in fantasy baseball too.
Honestly I think most athletes use PEDS in all sports.

I don't think most fans will ever understand how brutal and punishing baseball can be on the body.

My arm hurts daily from a brief college career.

I won't argue the rule or Gordon's punishment, but I certainly won't judge him with the typical fan's air of moral superiority.

well one myth has been broken in that if you take steroids you turn into The Hulk and smash homeruns. Gordon weighs maybe a buck 90 soaking wet and looks like a string bean. lol

Such a true statement. 162 is a HUGE number. Just because you aren't tackling someone, it doesn't mean the marathon of a season doesnt beat you up

Doesn't mean he, or anyone else, gets a pass though

This is spot on, so many people come on BO and the internet and bash the guys for stuff like this. They are paying the price for what they did so why do so many fans think they can judge them? I am sure we can look into some fans closets and they would have many things hidden.

Having seen a ton of sprinters get popped over the years, I guess I just don't have the same blinders that think it's just the hulking power hitters who can benefit from them. Plus a little more pop for him means more doubles and triples. More speed means more hits (beating out that close play) and steals. So no, seeing a speed guy get popped doesn't exactly surprise me.

Yep, for every step they make with testing, there are people in a lab about 5 steps ahead of them developing a masking agent.

For the longest time everybody held up Olympic testing as great, and darn near impossible to beat, and BALCO made it look like a joke.

Time to start making the teams pay for having dirty players on their rosters.

Remember the Giants middle championship in the current run, the 2012 season?
Melky Cabrera is having a fantastic career season, wins the All-Star game MVP, and then was caught using testosterone, thus confirming him as a rotten cheater for the entire season up 'til that point. Sure, he was suspended for 50 games, but the Giants still benefitted greatly from his cheating.

If you have a starting position player test dirty during the season (like Melky), you should have to forfeit 10 wins, and I'm thinking 5 for a starting pitcher.

This'll get the teams testing their own guys so it doesn't come down to MLB having to bust them. Enough is enough.

Like I said in the Chris Colabello thread - there really isn't any incentive NOT to do the PED's. These guys are getting suspended and are either getting back with their team playing like nothing happened (Ryan Braun, etc.) or getting released by their team and then getting picked up by other teams and being paid millions and millions of dollars with long-term contracts (Johnny Peralta, Nelson Cruz, etc....). Why would these guys stop doing them when they don't truly get punished???

Is the answer longer punishments like more than 80 games for the first offense (maybe a whole year) or even a life-time ban for the first offense? I don't know.

I just know that these cheaters and MLB are setting a terrible example for kids - I don't even blame the players as much as the MLB/team owners - if the teams just forgive them anyway and give them these huge contracts, why not do the drugs??

Great example for kids - cheat and get rewarded......

Saw an article on bleacher report.

Why not cheat? Dee is only losing 1.5 mil out of his guaranteed 50 mil contract. Players will keep roiding until serious penalties go into effect, such as allowing team to renegotiate contract or one strike you're out.

I'm so over PEDs, let then do or take whatever they want.

Just because its available doesn't mean you have to use it.

What's the incentive not to cheat?

Hmmm how about INTEGRITY?????

Or what it will do to your body later on in life?

Is it bad that I immediately thought of Thommy when I read the title of this thread?
