Looks like the Yankees are high on Jurickson Profar for 2B if Texas sells low. Maybe I should have my friend in Arizona have him sign a baseball.

Two pretty big statements by Cash man today. First, hes saying that he's going to shop around Brett Gardner which irritates me. He had a great season last year and is growing as one of my favorite players. Then he said that its optimal to start Bird in AAA, which makes no sense to me. He said its good for the Yankees if they do

I'm torn on the first one. Like you, I love Gardy and he is my favorite player now that Jeter is retired. The problem with Gardy is that he disappears in the second half of the season. The new hitting coach did reveal that he had wrist problems last year that he was dealing with, so that may be the reason for last season.

The Greg Brid thing makes perfect sense. If they aren't going to dump Teixeira, A-Rod, or Beltran, why have Bird sit on the bench and watch games when he could be playing everyday in AAA? The DH spot has A-rod and old man Beltran when he needs a break anchored. Of course, I would much rather see them dump those players and play Bird.

Starting bird in triple A makes perfect sense. Keep getting him consistent at bats before tex goes down again.

Gardy was horrid the second half of last year. I love the guy but if we can get some thing decent for him then pull the trigger

Not sure how much people would be willing to give up for him tho

Yankees just made a minor move. Ronald Herrera for Jose Pirela. What does everyone think of it?

Seems like good news if you like Refsynder. Pirela didn't do much offensively, and nothing special defensively. Not much of a lose, and opens up a spot on the roster

Yankees get Aaron hicks for Jr murphy. I absolutely love this. There isn't really a need for Murphy now that we have McCann and Sanchez is actually developing well.

Not much in the article on Herrera, so I wonder what the Yankees saw in him. This should give the starting 2B job to Refsnyder, but I have a feeling they will go after Zobrist and have Refsnyder as a backup infielder.

Great news for Sanchez as he will probably get the nod as backup catcher now. This makes me wonder if they are posturing to move Beltran to DH or trade him as they have been looking for a platoon outfielder to compliment Chris Young. I forgot Chris Young is a free agent, so this may just be his replacement as the 4th outfielder.

Good move for Yanks, but Murphy really grew on me this past season and he was becoming a favorite of mine. His bat was coming around and he managed the rotation very well for someone who was a new face. Hicks gives the team a lot more flexibility. I'd hate to see Gardner ever go. He's by-far my favorite player. I'd rather they move Ellsbury if they're going to move an OF. As long as Judge isn't blocked or move, I'll be happy. Ref should have the 2B job even though Zobrist would be a good addition. I really love the direction Cashman is going with this roster. Yeah, he's dropped money on the McCann's and Beltran's, but he's complimented those moves with the acquisitions of Didi and Eovaldi.

Do you see us adding a #1-2 starter this offseason(ie cueto)? I would be pretty happy with Cueto, Tanaka, Severino, Pineda and Eovaldi. I like the bullpen but wouldn't mind trading miller for some good prospects. I like the looks of Lindgren if he can stay healthy

I'm sure they will add someone to the rotation. There were just too many injuries last year and Sabathia and Nova just stink. I have seen reports that are interested in Wei-Yen Chen.

I was quite surprised to discover that voice on TV was Alex Rodriguez. He was good at that.

Good news for Marcus Thames.

The Yankee roster......no comment.

Does no one like Andrew Miller? I guess we'll find out.

They could add a complimentary arm, but looks like that Severino/Tanaka would be penciled in as the 1/2 of the rotation. 3/4 is locked in and I'm done with Nova and want to see Warren back in the rotation.

Seeing what the return was for Kimbrel, why not dangle Miller out there. Move Miller and then I'd be content keeping Warren in the pen.

Looks like Chase Whitley is gone to Tampa in the Rule 5 draft:

Rosenthal: Rays claim Chase Whitley off waivers - River Avenue Blues

I also saw an article saying the Yankees may be trying to get Starlin Castro. I really hope this isn't true. His defense isn't that great and because of it, he has been rumored for a few years now to be sacked by the Cubs.

I'm not sure how this one works out or if Cashman is looking at Warren as trade bait.

Cashman says Warren is "going to come in as a starter" next season - River Avenue Blues

Seems to be that we already have a glut of starters. You have Tanaka, Pineda, and Eovaldi already penciled in. You have to start Severino as he may have been the best pitcher we had. Then you have the crap: Nova and Sabathia. And then there are some good free agent pitchers out there this year.

Personally, I would look to trade Nova and move Sabathia and Warren to the bullpen. Down the stretch, Sabathia was great for about 4 innings and then he imploded. Put him in the bullpen in a long relief role. Then get a free agent pitcher this year or put Warren in as the fifth starter and go after Strasburg next year; praying all season that Dusty Baker doesn't kill his arm.

it wasnt Rule 5 that they lost Whitley in... he was put through waivers and was claimed by the Rays. The Rule 5 draft isnt until the winter meetings

Yankees trade Justin Wilson to Tigers:

Detroit Tigers acquire reliever Justin Wilson from New York Yankees

Not sure about the two pitchers we are getting, but Justin Wilson seemed to burn out like the rest of the bullpen at the end.

Not sure about this one. I have seen Starlin Castro play once live and he stunk at SS with 2 crucial errors to lose the game. I really wanted to see Refsnyder man the position. I wonder if this frees him up for a possible trade to Miami for Jose Fernandez. I know they have been rumoring Aaron Judge in this possibility which saddens me since I met him and think he would be a good fit in right field after Beltran leaves in 2017.

So far, here is what we lost in the Rule V draft:

Quote:
The Yankees lost two players in the Rule 5 draft among the first three picks. Outfielder Jake Cave went to the Reds with the second pick. Cave, 23, is considered a Brett Gardner type prospect. He hit .278 between Double-A and Triple-A. With the third pick, the Braves selected lefty Evan Rucktyj. Rucktyj, 23, had a 2.63 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A. The Yankees passed on selecting a player.
I'm really hoping we don't lose my PC guy, Mark Montgomery.

Not really sure I'm seeing what Cashman is doing yet with the pen. Losing Warren was one thing, but moving your 7th inning guy is another. No way Miller moves now and it's got me wondering who the bridge to Betances is now. Maybe these chips that were traded for becomes a part of a bigger transaction.

From the article, here is who the replacements might be:

Quote:
The Yankees think Jacob Lindgren, their No. 1 pick in 2014; Chasen Shreve; and James Pazos are three lefties who could replace Wilson.
I saw Pazos against the Blue Jays and he stunk. My guess is that it will be Shreve although last year was pretty much his first full season.

Yeah Pazos isn't good. I do think Lindgren is the real deal. I was upset to see him injured last year but he has some really good stuff so I can't wait to see what a full, healthy season brings. Honesty though, I would love to trade for some more youth. We're probably not going to win in the next few years and after 2018, we have a decent amount of contracts free'd up. Building around Severino, Judge, Mateo, Lindgren, Sanchez and Kaprielan would be awesome.

Won't be surprised to see the Yanks sign or trade for some arms in the pen
