Default What Is the Greatest Card Set Ever?

There are some awesome sets, and there are some really terrible sets, but is there a set out there that has been determined to be the best ever?

For football, probably 1957 Topps, some arguments for 1952 Bowman Large or 1955 Topps All American can be made.

2008 Ultimate Collection

On card autos & an incredible checklist. It will take too long to name all the greats on the checklist so just see for yourself:

http://www.blowoutcards.com/images/f...ultimateFB.pdf

To me, this is the ultimate in checklist content & card design.

I agree with 1997 UD Legends.. on card autos of the most hofers including sweetness and no RC filler crap.

Gotta be near or at the top.

Almost impossible to put any 'modern' sets in the conversation due to the heavy rookie content.

Tough call but I'd probably say 1990 Pro Set because it was so limited in print run. Tough to locate that stuff.

Have to agree. The on-card auto combined with the simple, clean, design really stick out. Such a gorgeous set.

Print run 656,898,909,345,567 numbered cases. Pretty scarce.

Haha. Have to note how well the serial number stands out in contrast to the background of fire and explosion.

I can only imagine the card world if modern cards (auots/jerseys) were made in 89 .. Prices of football would be crazy with rookies Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, Troy Aikman, Derrick Thomas, Andre Rison, Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas, Cris Carter, Sterling Sharpe, Tim Brown, Rod Woodson, Ed Mccafrey, Steve Atwater, Bruce Matthews, etc.. Boxes would be 3 times what the 2012 draft class cost.

Same goes for the 90/91 hockey sets with rookies of Jagr, Brodeur, Blake, Bure, Fedorov, Belfour, Richter, Larionov, Sundin, Mogilny, Roenick, Irbe, Joseph, Modano, Nolan, Recchi, Domi, Potvin, etc

Not greatest, but a nice set filled with Hall of Famers, on-card autos, and games used jerseys of those Hall of Famers is 2000 Fleer Greats of the Game. Of course I'm biased. http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/f...aster-set.html
