well said.

and i agree that Baseball is more popular in Japan at this time.

i now have the UPMOST respect for players in NBP
especially those that come to america to play in the MLB

heck i even bought a Black Yoshi after he finished out game 7

Did that once won’t happen again. The players and competition from Japan seems to get better every year.

It's a great time to be a baseball fan.

WBC next. Another form of baseball competition that the US can no longer write off!

Are we forgetting Ohtani's childhood hero, Hideki Matsui? 2009 WS MVP.

It is certainly poetic that the once-in-a-century player is from Japan.

Yup, foolish to dismiss him. Murakami's downside has definitely overtaken the narrative on him in recent weeks, to a somewhat silly degree. He's shaping up to be the first Japanese star who is actually underhyped coming over to MLB. In-Zone Contact is his biggest blemish, and it's not much worse than some dude named Shohei Ohtani when he came over. "Anonymous scouts" were at that time calling Ohtani a "high school hitter."

Murakami is .270/.951 in a pitcher friendly league where the average player is something like a replacement level 40 man roster guy. We've got that and the eye test. Well, his defense sucks ass but no one cares about defense.

No guarantees with Murakami, but I'd say his upside is "Japanese Matt Olson" minus the gold gloves ha.

I sort of did. I pulled all of his RCs out of set binders and they will now go into an Ohtani exclusive top loader binder.

It's the topps transcendent vip party released in 2019. I believe it's a 50 card set with each numbered to 50.

Ahh, that's right. Explains the 2014 design but why would it have the RC logo if it's from 2019?

There's a legitimate reason for this one.

This set originated from the Fall 2018 Topps Transcendent Japan Edition set which included guaranteed autos (framed autos, one of fifty 1/1 autos), a 50 card framed set (Sho/Ichiro) and an invite to the meet/greet Shohei Ohtani. At the event to meet Shohei, which took place the following year, they handed out a 50 card set that is known as the Transcendent VIP Party 'Through The Years" set. This set is basically the non-autographed version of all the fifty 1/1 cards that came with each set. However, since this event took place in 2019, they had to label the set as a 2019 release even though it originated from 2018 Topps Transcendent Japan.

This is one of those situations where the year mismatch and rookie logo actually make sense.

Thanks for the info! In the past you could pick these cards up for reasonable prices and I did not pick up any because I thought it was a niche set. Bought this one because I liked the hitting photo and I liked the card. Still don't know what to think of these or their pricing.

The TTY cards used to be plentiful, and like most #d sho rookie cards, they now hardly ever surface and are listed at $1K+ prices or are beat up raw copies. With everything else going nuclear, it's hard to call these a bad buy at $300-500 in decent condition. The 1952 and 2018 version of this set (first and last) go for a much higher premium. 1975 is also in high demand.

Same goes for the Japan framed cards and autos.
