Default The Perennial Kylian Mbappé Thread

Feels like soccer should have one of these. Might as well start with Mbappé.

Will kick it off with one of his better cards:

Ummm. Wow. Incredible card.

I know that people are excited about Greenwood, Fati, Haaland and Sancho but for me it is Mbappe. He is the Messi of 2020’s

Agreed. When Mbappe was 17, he was leading Monaco to the Champions League Semifinals. When Mbappe was 19, he was a critical contributor to a World Cup winning French Side. At 21, Mbappe has undoubtedly accomplished more than Messi or Ronaldo did at the same age.

He is the real deal.

Mbappe has a better international team ( france) than both messi and ronaldo ever have. But both messi and ronaldo are playmakers ( ronaldo not so much now as he plays as a striker). Mbappe is not a playmaker.

But he is still the 3rd best player in the planet below ronaldo and messi and will be the person to take it forward from the legends. But he has to move to english or spanish league for that.

He'd get smashed to bits in England.

That's why Ronaldo will always be the GOAT imo. Not taking ANYTHING away from Messi, but the bottom half of La Liga is weaker than the Premier League and no where near as physically punishing.

Could Messi do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke?

He was not leading them to anything. Falcao was their leading scorer.
They had an easy group that year.

So goes to a stacked PSG team and can't even get out of Round of 16...the next two years.

Team accomplishments mean nothing. Not like he carried these teams on his back.

Let him go play for Cameroon or Algeria and see how many World Cups he wins. He can play for the rest of life and he won't do it.

Pele wouldn't have won a World Cup with Algeria.

Absurd.

In the knockout rounds of the 2017 UEFA Champions League, Mbappe scored 6 of Monaco’s 13 goals and in 5 of Monaco’s 6 matches. Against Borussia in the Quarterfinals, Mbappe scored half of Monaco’s six goals and twice at Dortmund in the first leg to help Monaco seize control with a 3-2 victory. Against Juventus in the Semifinals, Mbappe was the only player to find the net for Monaco.

So, there is a pretty strong argument that 18-year-old Mbappe did, in fact, carry Monaco to the Champions League Semifinals.

He can carry Monaco but can't carry PSG to the semifinals since they've been out R16 and before him they were getting to the QF at least.

He makes no difference just like Ronaldo makes no difference.
Juventus still can't win CL and Real Madrid winning La Liga without him this year.

Glik was the real mvp of that Monaco team. 8 goals from a CB with great defense.

They'll probably lose to Atalanta....

Figured it would be easier if all topics concerning Mbappe were consolidated into one thread. Otherwise, it seems a bit messy to have separate threads for showing off, value, rookie designation...etc.

It'll be interesting to see how this year's Champion's League affects the Mbappe narrative,
given that PSG have what is perceived to be a comparatively "easy" draw to the UCL Final.

If they win it (or at least make the Final), does that boost Mbappe's reputation even further?

Conversely, if they crash out to Atalanta in the quarterfinals, does that hurt Mbappe?

If PSG wins the Champions League, it can only burnish Mbappe’s reputation as he would potentially be the local kid who finally brought a championship home.

With a strong performance next month, Mbappe appears to have as good a chance as any to not only win the Champions League, but the Ballon d’Or too.

Hi Mbappe collectors. I pulled this a while ago. Any idea on value? Was thinking of getting it graded. I don't collect soccer so I know very little (I know he is good).

Christ, that's a MONSTER card. You have what is known as the Father's Day RC. Assuming it's in mint condition, I'd hazard a guess of at least $1000-$1,500 raw, based on past sales history of other lower #d cards (e.g., $330 for /50 back in March). A BGS 9.5 (non-true gem) #d /5 went for $4k in mid-May. A BGS 9.5 of this card probably gets something close to that now, if not more. A PSA 10 would get more than that, given the premium for PSA 10s over non-true gem 9.5s.

Thank you! I just tossed it into my BGS order that went out this morning. Looks GEM+. Should know next week!

Gary V just posted on IG a bunch of Mbappe cards, so expect a bunch of people who haven't jumped on board to jump on now.

Wow, Gary Vee is on board the 2016 Panini Foot train. File under things I did not expect to type in 2020, great for the hobby though. The one on ebay with PWCC is already through $4950 with 9 days to go.

He actually mentioned it at least a few times six months back, but it wasn't as often as some of his other mentions (like Luka & Giannis). I wouldn't attribute the whole price jump in the past few days to him though -- sports starting up in general has people looking at these cards more closely.

They had settled around the $2700 mark for psa 10 over the last few weeks but then it looked like a pair sold for $7000 last week. However they tend to be sold from people all over the world, perhaps there is also a premium as it's in the US from one of the main consignors.

Yeah, I was actually one of the main buyers on a number of the PSA 10's on eBay in the past handful of months (managed to get eleven of them in that $2k-3k a piece range). I've been inching up what I'll pay slowly over time and lost out on a Probstein auction at $3k when they were bringing more like $2500-2700, and had offered $12k to the seller on the 4x lot that Gary bought (he appears to have paid the full $16k BIN), and now this PWCC one is way up there. Since the 4x lot sat for a few days without any takers (seriously just a week ago), I'd say that they are more in that $3-4k each range than the $4950 that this one is at, but the market is nutty right now and who knows, this could go even higher.

As a side note, the thought about it being from the US is actually a great point. I had to buy some of mine from Japan, France, Romania even.. and some of those took over a month to arrive. So it would make sense that people wouldn't want to risk thousands/have to wait so long for the package to arrive.
