Good for her. She turned her passion into a career the way she wanted to do it.

On the other hand, it's a little disheartening to know that she got there by recklessly handing out bad financial advice to anyone who would listen. Her Feb 2021 "5 Cards to Buy Right Now" list of:

5. Jayson Tatum Prizm Silver PSA 10 $3,500
4. Donovan Mitchell Prizm Silver PSA 10 $2,000
3. Anthony Davis Prizm Base PSA 10 $2,000
2. Giannis Prizm Base PSA 10 $3,500
1. Kevin Durant Topps Chrome PSA 10 $11,000

shows that she A. Really doesn't understand the card market, and B. She's willing to give out bad advice to advance her own agenda.

Or how about "6 Basketball Cards to Buy and Hold" mentioned above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2zgFOJaV4&t=377s from Sep 2020. I've attached a few quotes from the video

1.Damian Lillard 2012 Prizm PSA 10: $1100 Her quote being "I personally feel like that's a great buy in point. It could certainly drop a little bit more, but it won't make a huge difference when you are about to sell the card when it gets back up again to $3000". Maybe she meant $300, because the card last sold for $294.
2.Devin Booker 2015 Prizm PSA 10: $900
3.Jayson Tatum 2017 Prizm PSA 10: $950
4.Luka Doncic 2018 Prizm PSA 10: $1400
5.Ja Morant 2019 Prizm PSA 10: $450 With the quote "I don't see the card coming down below $400, to be honest".
6.Zion 2019 Prizm PSA 10: $600 With the quote "It's a great time to buy"

Again, great for her. Not so great for anyone who took her advice and spent that kind of money on those cards. It sounds like it's a content role she's taking with Collectors and not a capital allocation role, so maybe there will be a focus on entertainment and not playing financial advisor and it will work out well. Wishing everyone involved the best, but the moral of the story here is "caveat emptor".

A person can give bad buying advice and still be good at their job. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

And judging by her work background, I imagine she'll do a very good job with Collectors, provided it's not telling people what to buy.

The bad advice part just plays into the bigger picture of the Gary Vee, Geoff Wilson, etc, culture of misleading people into making bad card buying decisions by pretending like you know what you are talking about, just to further your own agenda. As someone who's never taken advice from these folks because I could see right through them, I find it toxic.

Good for Nat! Smart of him to hire someone to join the PSA team who pumps up all kinds of cards and players right before a possible market downturn. I’m sure he’s working hard behind the scenes to make sure the subs keep on coming!

Did you profit from them though? I don't care for a lot of those guys either but i profited from the market at the time as well so i'm not going to pretend to be all high and mighty about it. You shouldn't act all sorry for their ''victims'' if you were doing something similar or profiting from it as well. That's the way i see it.

I think in the case of Hanna, she wasn't trying to mislead, just didn't know any better since she was relatively new to the hobby herself. There are plenty of traditionally smart or successful people who believe that can immediately translate into winning in a new arena.

That being said, the amount of content creators touting great plays who have no idea what they are talking about is unfortunate. And to echo your last point, it's even worse when they are rewarded for these actions. Hanna doesn't get on Nat's radar without those videos.

Of course, but it’s still irksome. Maybe I’m just too petty, and I say that sincerely. My initial thought is essentially, “Lol, of course this happens.”

Ohh… the little content I’ve seen of hers makes me believe that she did sincerely think these were good buys. But you’d think with that UT-Austin Masters degree and Google Project Lead experience would come the wisdom to not dish out advice without the understanding needed to help your followers avoid financial ruin. And at the end of the day, she got the followers/clout she was after, and anyone listening to her got caught holding the bag. We're talking about someone who's done the latter here.

I make a clear distinction between people that like to talk about the hobby, what drives them, and what guides their decisions, vs. people who try to confidently give out advice (especially if it's bad advice) in pursuit of influencer clout.

Happy for her, but unhappy about this hobby if this is the direction the hobby is going. (unless her job at PSA like a receptionist or non decision maker?)

Have to rethink how everything works now.

* Thought that hire at CGC was bad, this might be a worse hire.

But does it reflect on your morals and ethics?

If you're an influencer on youtube and you use your platform to give investing advice even though you don't really know what you're talking about -- or worse, you're deliberately being misleading -- I think it reflects poorly on your ethics and morals.

I must question if this is a wise career decision long-term - stay with one of the largest and most successful companies in the world, or pray that the grading market stays afloat with a decline in the economy and sports card collecting in general.

I watched one of her videos a few weeks ago -- it was recommended to me by youtube, which may not be a coincidence considering she worked for google and I rarely watch videos on trading cards. Anyway, she ironically was showing off a return from a grading company I didn't recognize -- perhaps a grading company she is affiliated with?

She has an innocent face and presentation -- maybe it makes her a more effective influencer?

Being a card collector, I wouldnt want to work for PSA. Grading is a scam and it's been shown to be corrupt.

If I were a youtube influencer, I'd advise her to become a full-time breaker.

If this gets her from not making any more hype videos, it's a win for the hobby.

She can't even afford a $5 microphone...

Looks like a very good hire by Collectors. My first time watching any of her YouTube and think she has very good insight. No idea what investment suggestions she’s given out in the past but I’ve probably given myself even poorer advice on certain card buys/sells. Ultimately it’s your own decision and money in an unpredictable market. No need to blame choices on anyone else.
