Stupid Money University (SMU) Perpetual Thread of Insanity
"SMU announces it has raised $100 million in seven days to help its ACC transition. SMU boosters plan to give more than $200 million to offset the school not getting ACC TV money for nine years."
SMU + Moving to a P5 conference + Unlimited NIL = ??? |
Texas A&M has tried this, no?

A&M doesn't have SMU boosters. We're talking stupid money. The poverty line in Highland Park is like $250,000. |

SMU + Moving to a P5 conference + Unlimited NIL = ???
That's small potato's. https://www.evanstonian.net/news/2022/11/10/northwestern-ryan-field/ On Sept. 28, Northwestern University announced plans to rebuild its football stadium, Ryan Field. The choice to build a new stadium in Evanston was made after a generous $480 million donation by the Ryan Family last year Does this mean Northwestern Should also win a National Title? |

Would never harsh that mellow. Too many good vibes that are far too rare these days in the hobby. BUC is the rose growing in the wasteland. |
I just don't think stupid money is going to get it done.

Whether it does or does not, I'm just here for the entertainment value of the original Gold Trans Am school going at it with no limits in place. |

A step in the right direction, but from an Alabama fan, they can't get too giddy about stars. Lest we forget Bama's run in the early 10s: Phillip Sims (#1 Pro Style 2010) Cooper Bateman (#2 Pro Style in 2013) David Cromwell (#4 Pro Style in 2014) Blake Barnett (#2 Pro Style in 2015) All four combined for 4 Touchdowns and 4 Interceptions at Alabama. Hell even today Alabama can't figure it out with: Jalen Milroe (#14 QB in 2021) Ty Simpson (#4 QB in 2022) Tyler Buchner (#10 QB in 2021) Eli Holstein (#12 QB in 2023) Dylan Lonergan (#16 in 2023) |

They can absolutely be giddy. We’re talking about SMU. |

All SMU has to do is apply their strategies from the early 80's and they will be national champion contenders.
Those strategies, which got SMU the "death penalty" are all perfectly legal now. (ok ok I guess inducements are technically still forbidden but there's just no way to prosecute any school which does that) |
I miss the days of recruiting from the prisons or Giving kids cars/Drugs/Women. This money thing is going to ruin recruiting and any integrity college football had. The overall product isn't good enough to overcome these things.

My favorite is Eric Dickerson who took the Trans Am from A&M, and then went to SMU. :D:D:D:D |
