Black friday wave discussion

Loved this thread last year. Maybe two years ago. Any good deals in wave one?

ThoseBackPages 10-28-2021 03:49 PM

i dont expect any good deals this year

these are the new times

LVDan 10-28-2021 03:56 PM

I'd assume that the distys are all flush from the last couple years of demand madness. So I don't expect any strong values on core products.
Imagine owning a business that's built to operate on small-ish 10-25% margins having a few years at an overall 70%(?)profit margin....
This would be similar to the local supermarket jacking the price on milk from $4/gallon to $7 instantly, while their cost was still $2.50/gal. And having a huge line of people willing at seven bucks.
Maybe some fair busting value on fringe-y things but no big potential rookie products at massive discounts I'd imagine.

hope you're excited for benchwarmer stuff and unsought retail products.

The presumably is a mountain of unsold Panini baseball both Hobby and Retail out there with more coming, and no reason for distributors to hang onto it.

HTown281 10-28-2021 04:02 PM

OMG but like 2021 topps update is going to be half off !![emoji849]

cruiserdaddy7 10-28-2021 04:06 PM

Last year had some featured specials in each wave. None this year. I don't see anything good.

anusinha 10-28-2021 04:17 PM

1994 Sportflics!!!!

and yeah... when youve had a year of operating with a 500% margin, you tend to be flush with cash.

Still waiting on ribeye to return to pre-covid price :D

'21 Topps Chrome sapphire might be available on black Friday :)!

Yeah, beef is up this year for sure. Scroundrels asking $7.99/lb for a tri-tip everywhere now and $5/lb for 85/15 GB.
Steaks are freaking ridiculous now- I agree. Nothing edible under $10/lb and usually more like 12.99.

Did grab a 15 lb brisket a couple weeks back at $2.49/ though:)!

21 Sapphire would have to be on some sort of Monday sale for me to look at it though.

Tonic3 10-28-2021 04:24 PM

The 20 blaster box case of 2017 prizm football for the low low price of $24,000 still blows my mind as utterly absurd. Even if you pulled multiple Mahomes you're still going to lose a boatload of money. So stupid

cardcollector34 10-28-2021 04:37 PM

What price would 2020 Update Hobby be good at? $40?

banosd 10-28-2021 04:40 PM

Yo Gabba Gabba deals to be had!

LVDan 10-28-2021 04:48 PM
What price would 2020 Update Hobby be good at? $40?
I guess this answer would be directly tied to your future market view of Rookie Debut cards. Did any 28 yo relievers break out from this set this season? I think we're still at Randy A. and Grisham's SD card as the bellcows for this one.
At $40 that's less than $2/pack. If you need something to rip regardless of content w/ a small shot at a few superstar insert autos and some sp variations it might not be horrible.
That said-it will probably be a 59.99 doorbuster?

free2131 10-28-2021 04:55 PM

Can't wait for 2009 Upper Deck Signature Stars for the INSANE SALE PRICE of $130 per box when you could have had them for $30 a box 3 years ago.

Siberian13 10-28-2021 04:59 PM

It’s a waste of time these days. Doubt they offer anything that’s considered a good deal. Someone will say it’s a good deal but only because they’ve been paying the current dumb prices.

boxbuster7 10-28-2021 04:59 PM

Blowout promos used to be absolutely nuts. Going back almost 10 years, I remember cases for $14.92 at one point on their Columbus day sale.

majestik101 10-28-2021 05:02 PM

I miss the days when 20 box cases of USA Stars and Stripes and Elite Extra Edition could be had for $399. For unlicensed those were a fun low risk rip

bustsomewax 10-28-2021 05:03 PM

I miss the feeling of waking at 330AM to score actual door busters. So many incredible deals back in the day. It will be a long time before we ever go back to that, but it will come.

cardcollector34 10-28-2021 05:05 PM

Anybody got a link to when that guy lost it over no silver packs in 2018 Update?

ThoseBackPages 10-28-2021 05:07 PM

i miss those $3.99 Hummers

Randallk34 10-28-2021 05:07 PM

Should I break out the lawn chair and get in line at target now?

JoeAdam 10-28-2021 05:10 PM

My LCS does a lot of promos and drawings on Black Friday. My favorite day to buy from them.

JeremyNick 10-28-2021 05:14 PM

Probably more worthwhile than what you do most days.
