I moved my PC into binders and it's increased my joy 100%

When I was a kid I had a binder for my "good cards". When I got back into hobby a few years ago it seemed like everyone was saying binders are terrible and you need slabs, top loaders, one touches and/or card savers. So that's what I did. And then of course i needed a bunch of different size card boxes for cards in penny sleeves, cards in different size holder etc. Then my PC was packed away where it wasn't easy to enjoy and when I did I had to pull out all these boxes and pull cards out of the boxes and it was cumbersome and unemployable. Most of my PC are $1-$10 value cards and I kept thinking why am I going through all this hassle and buying all these hobby supplies that are costing more then the cards to store my PC? So I picked up a binder and 100 sheets and started transferring everything. I kept cards in penny sleeves inside the binder pages for double protection and I feel like that's adequate for most of my cards. And now I can just pull out the binder and flip through pages and stare at 9 cards at a time and it's really pure bliss.

lemmer 04-04-2023 05:51 PM

This is the way. I moved my pc to binders and will not go back to top loaders in boxes.

BigRedMachine80 04-04-2023 06:03 PM

Eh, my cards from the 90's that were in binders were all warped. I'll stick with top loaders. I haven't bought wax since 2020, so volume is not an issue anymore.

Right there with you. Got the 4 spot pages for top loaders and it’s the absolute best to store a bunch of secondary fave cards while my faves are displayed. Definitely works well for me.

Yeah you can get those pages that fit top loaders or slabs but obviously you can't fit as many cards in a binder. But it's just nice to be able to flip through a binder and look at your cards.

My favorite binder now is the All Horizontal binder. I don’t bother putting sets together in checklist order any more. Horizontals go all together on pages, they look great that way.

On some checklist that goes All-Star, HoF, All-Star, GOAT, All-Star, HoF, HoF, Rookie Card with 79 career At Bats, All-Star, I just delete the lame RCs too.

Having them in binders increases my joy as well.

They are nice, and a lot cheaper than going the official ‘top loader binder’ route with the specially made 6 pocket pages.

The one downside to the ultra pro is it’s 4 topladers a page, and they get thick and stack up pretty fast. But being a binder guy myself, I like them and use them for higher dollar inserts.

On the thread topic, I love binders but Upper Deck has been making many newer Marvel sets I collect in thicker 80-100pt card stock, and they are a pain to store in binder pages..but I still do.

you mention 4 pocket.

I'm seeing 9 pocket options...

Is there something I should know to avoid these and stick with the 4?

HeritageKing 04-05-2023 01:30 PM

So Ultra Pro pages are 4 cards per page, but you can get 9 card per page on other brands with the binder being a big bigger. Anyone have any pics? How many 4 count pages can you get into a 4 inch binder?

I was saying the 4-pocket because that’s what Ultra Pro makes for toploaders.

Yes there are larger binders like the one you linked, I’ve never personally tried them, I imagine they are fine. It used to be just the one ‘Toploader Binder’ with the 6 pockets, but lots of different options now for a toploader binder.

Main difference with the one you linked and the ultra pro toploader pages is those are fixed pages in a binder, whereas the ultra pro 4-pockets can be interchanged, put in any type of 3 ring binder. That might not matter to you…some like the fixed page portfolio type binders without the bulky rings.

Also in that binder, it’s basically a pocket just big enough for a toploader. Whereas the ultra pro ones it’s a topoader loose in a large pocket (although they don’t really move around). The presentation is different because of this.

Considering getting some of the 4 pocket top loader pages now. Does anyone have a good binder recommendation? And when storing them upright on the shelf do the pages sag?

I put my graded cards in binders too…BCW pages and I fold the plastic sleeve over the front for the bottom 2 cards and over the back for the top cards to hold them into place. Works like a charm and it’s just a standard 3 ring binder from Walmart/Target, etc. I’d say 10 pages or 40 graded per binder as it gets heavy.

I’ll have to post an update pic. Had to remove all the display cards to make room for more binders. The black ones are topps base sets. Every year complete from 65 thru 2022. I have 59 and 60 as well. Currently working on 63.
The pink are my wife’s ginter sets. 2006 thru 2022 complete master sets.
After next year I’ll be out of space on the shelves so not sure what I’ll do then.

If anyone has a particular card they want to see from any of those years I’d be happy to snap a pic. I love showing them off.

Love those pages of shiny 90s cards.

I almost want to put together a whole binder of 90s inserts. Epixs, Z-teams, Museum collections, flair showcase, refractors, gold medallions. Many can still be found cheap in baseball if not the main names like Griffey…it would basically be a binder of awesomeness. Would look good in the 9-block sheets.

I think I got the one I linked to. $45. I love the idea of no rings, and no buying individual pages. It’s supposed to get here tomorrow and I’ll immediately jump in.

DynaEtch 04-06-2023 01:11 AM

This is the 4-pocket Ultra Pro top loader page (sorry for it not being baseball, I collect marvel).

It’s basically a 4-pocket ultra pro page with one small addition, the flap over top and bottom row so the toploaders don’t fall out. The pages are a little smaller than standard 9-pocket pages but still fit in a 3-ring binder. Notice the extra space in each pocket. The toploaders don’t really move around when flipping the pages though (which would be a dealbreaker).

As for binders, I just use the regular office binders since they are view-binders (you can customize the covers and spines by inserting graphics).

Each binder is a self-contained master set, which is a bigger concept in non-sports than sports. In addition to the set in pages, stuff like pack wrappers

Magazine articles from the set contemporary to the time (in 8.5x11 sheet protectors), I enjoy this historical stuff.

As well as promos etc. I realize promos aren’t nearly as collected in sports.

Problem with binders is they take up so much space. And they get bulky for those 800 card sets. Luckily in nonsports the sets are smaller.

Someone mentioned warping...I think if you have the binder in standard environmental conditions, typical D-ring binders, non-PVC pages (which most are now), filled adequately, it should be fine. It's not a bad idea, even if you dont flip through the binders regularly, to check once in a blue moon how the pages and cards are holding up, to gauge long-term effects. Dont forget cards can also warp in long boxes just the same (bowing, see any vintage topps set in a longbox). For me it's actually easier to slide a card into a binder pocket vs into a sleeve, as in less chance of damaging a card- very easy with the 'lift-pocket and slide in motion' as long as not being hasty...so acute damage is less of an issue for me with binder pages.

Ok. I’m digging this. The binder is much bigger than I’m used to, like the new bases!

But it feels quality. It comes with all of its pages. It zips closed. Comes with 20 top loaders and a 5% off coupon. No stupid card damaging ring. Normal top loaders are super easy to slide in. I want to fill it up and lug it around and test the weight of the cards against the fabric when it’s standing upright, so more work to do. I wish it had a better way to easily label the contents (there’s a small card inserted on the spine you can write on).

But damaging the cards in a binder isn’t an option for me, and I hate having giant boxes filled with hard to enjoy top loaders. Thus so far I’m happy with this blending.

What size are you talking about. The pages are very flimsy so they expand

I think you'd want to go with the sheets/pages that can hold top loaders. I've found that the ringless binders can get a little overfull just by using chrome cards so I try to avoid putting anything even 55pt in them if I'm going front and back. But the top loader pages should be just fine holding mostly whatever size top loaders you have.

EDIT: There's a bunch of styles like the post at the top of this page.

I've tried the binder thing with a couple of different collection components...it mostly makes me feel like the cards aren't worth anything. More than anything it made it clear that if there are cards I feel like I should be putting in binders, I just shouldn't be buying those cards at all - they wind up being more clutter than they are cool. And I'm not saying this is some universal truth - but for me, it's pointed out that I should focus on my low print run collection components versus getting more vet /99 types of cards.

Most of my cards are in binders but I find it only increases my joy 86%.

The UltraPro 4 card Toploader pages will fit One-Touch cards even, if so desired.

One touches in binders, I'd never thought of that.

I did similar this year. Boxes are boring. I wanna look at my cards, often. I’m not much of a slab guy either so that helped. I made two binders. One for my favorite Mets players and another for shiny, numbered, or sp’s. I wasn’t enjoying them in a box in a closet. Now, binders get passed around like a photo album during get togethers.

I to was talked into keeping cards in top loaders in boxes. I just recently bought some 9 card sheets and started putting them back in binders. Nostalgia factor is at 100%. Very enjoyable project.

It’s clunky to say the least. More of showing the quoted-poster that thicker top loads will work in those UltraPro sheets.

You are the real men of genius! I purchased an EXO-ARMOR toploader binder from Amazon. It came in yesterday. I think it holds like 250 cards in the toploader and team bag. This is the only way to go for me. I'm gonna be ordering 4 more. The sleeves seem very sturdy and are woven into the binder. They are 100% protected, and so awesome to flip through them. For the person asking about holding thicker cards, I have some patch/auto cards that are thicker, that fit great. The only thing that won't fit in this one are magnetic holders. I will probably keep my high end in those in my hard case, but the other stuff will be transferred into toploaders/team bag/binder. Thanks for the heads up!

These are awesome! Do you have the whole set?

The entire set is in that binder. Built completely piece by piece when cards were a bit cheaper.

I like looking at my cards and binders is the only realistic way to do that.

However to make the set easier to sell for my wife should I kick the bucket, I have the top 9 cards at PSA.

Bingo!

Probably the only thing a Dodgers fan and a Giants fan will ever agree on :D

I've used these for awhile now. They accommodate penny sleeves so that adds that extra protection.

I like the toploader binders idea. However, I like to look at the backs of cards. Not excited about having to pull cards out of the pages to look at the backs.

Then the top loader sheets would be a better bet.

mfw13 04-26-2023 10:27 AM

Does anybody know if someone out there is manufacturing "mini" sheets for 1975-mini sized cards? Topps has released quite a few different insert sets with cards of that size, and I'd prefer not to have to keep them in regular size sheets.

Thanks for any help!

queonda 04-28-2023 10:16 PM

I moved some of my junk cards out of boxes into binders with fresh sheets a few weeks ago. Then I started down a rabbit hole, buying my first new packs in 20 years. Fun to touch the old cards again, and putting them in binders gives them a chance I'll look at them more than once every 20 years.

The only problem was some Studio 93s I already had in binders, back to back. Some of those stuck to each other. Sorry Wade Boggs, you definitely don't have a chance of gem mint 10 now.
