I was probably posting at the same time as you. But yeah pretty cool. Hopefully I’ll be able to get blasters at retail.
|
Another release.... Panini is really over playing their hand. Burn out by the end of the year. MMA is just not that big yet.
|
supposedly one more set to come in december - immaculate

Now that they are losing NBA and NFL they will really have to go all in on UFC |
Another release.... Panini is really over playing their hand. Burn out by the end of the year. MMA is just not that big yet.
I don't think the star power is really there right now either.

Truth. Their biggest star (Khabib) retired and their most marketable fighter (Conor) is a shell of his former self. There are some choice fighters on the roster but their star power isn’t there yet. |

I'm a fan but his prices are just insane for the competition he's faced so far. I can see why, he's a personality and a really slick fighter who is a ton of fun to watch. I'm just not gonna pay up when he's fighting guys they are picking off the street. Will be fun to watch him fight someone legit... whenever that happens. |
Dustin Poirier sells well
|
Has anyone considered Izzy autos not holding as much weight considering Topps’ last sticker dump project (Striking Signatures) had 543 of them for the base alone?

Last dude he fought he beat but the dude (can’t remember his name) came out of the fight with more momentum than O’Malley lol I mess with him but there’s a bunch of fighters that are better. Petr Yan for one. |
All the fighters mentioned have Topps Rookies.
Panini has some good rookie base and autos... Usman autos are brutally undervalued for a proven champ but they are releasing way too much... its over saturation of variation this and parallel that. |

Khamzat Chimaev is one guy that only has Panini cards. Usman is definitely undervalued. |

He never will. He's said in an interview that he doesn't get paid enough to fight anyone good so he will run his contract down fighting bums. Awful attitude. |
He never will. He's said in an interview that he doesn't get paid enough to fight anyone good so he will run his contract down fighting bums.
Awful attitude.
On the one hand, I agree with you – if you aren't willing to fight top competition, don't call yourself a professional fighter. On the other hand... prizefighting has always been about securing paydays for whatever fight will sell. MMA and boxing are rife with fighters throughout all eras who took bad fights because the payday was good. Yin and the yang of the ring. |
Another set. Yikes. I like how the Buzz said boxes carry a MSRP of $130. Haha that’s hilarious!!
Singles it is, again. UFC wax is just way too overpriced. Panini overestimated the UFC market by a country mike I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yin and the yang of the ring.
I think it's the fact that he's just looking to fight scrubs that rubs me the wrong way. Frankie Edgar's my favorite fighter, but he's clearly at the end of his run, and O'Malley even turned down that fight. I'd think a win over a legendary name would mean a lot more, like it did for Sandhagen, than a guy who's making his debut in the UFC. |
Minority here apparently, but Chronicles might be the first retail product readily accessible. most people couldn’t find prizm anywhere and Select didn’t have retail. It can’t be all hobby prices.
The various soccer retail products produced this year created a whole new segment of soccer collectors, whether the hardcores think it watered things down too much or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The hordes/mob that created all the issues in the stores resulted in Walmart and Target pulling retail in most locations... doubt they will come back with chronicles.
But... supply vs demand might play out.... too much supply, and flippers cannot sell and soon prices drop. But a big drop is bad for the hobby in general. Saw it was up for pre-order on Blowout...........
$849 a box Blowout Buzz has a MSRP of $130. Just ridiculous. Over this awful pricing and at this point, I don't know who is to blame. Nobody seems to be breaking UFC wax. Collecting Miocic Prizm basically came to a standstill. Didn't even bother to start with Select given all the levels and colors. Feels like UFC is ruined before it even started. |
I'm hoping it's just a mock up but.....spell check

Good fighter but that last DQ was a head scratcher. Don't see much upside with him.
? He’s a huge favorite to destroy Sterling in the rematch like he was doing in the first fight before the DQ. I don’t see anyone at Bantamweight having anything for him. When your only path to victory is wrestling or a DQ and then this happens to you: |

Marlon Vera is good. |
Was hoping this would be closer to $400/box. :( Guess it's back to just buying singles for now.
I really think the UFC scene will die down next year. Immaculate will probably still be crazy though. |
Panini ruins everything it touches, although Topps was just running out the same names every single product.

How in the world is Prizm almost $2k a box? This feels a bit like market manipulation. Singles for Prizm are only getting lower it feels like.

Likely is market manipulation
There seems to be lots of collectors... but only a few with serious $$$. Not enough of either though to keep up with the rate Panini releases colored crap
How in the world is Prizm almost $2k a box? This feels a bit like market manipulation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's all market manipulation! The same people buying these Panini boxes and singles would be spending 10x the money on the earlier Topps cards if they actually believed it was a good investment. But they cant manipulate the market the same way on such older product. I know for the fighter I used to collect his rare cards (after i stopped buying them) would sell for less then $20 for cards numbered to 8 now cards of the same fighter are now selling for $100 but not his earlier topps cards. |
Panini will have them for sale tomorrow at $625 a box. About $550 too high but what do I know? Way to undercut your retail partners who have been selling these north of $800.
Market is a mess. A big fat mess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
What an absolutely disgusting price. Vile.
|
And now it just sits there. Again, this should be sub-$100 a box. Ridiculous that it's 6-7x that everywhere.
|
They must have paid a obscene amount to get the licence from Topps. You'd be bonkers to buy at this price.
|
Wouldn't be so bad if UFC cards actually sold well...
|
Wouldn't be so bad if UFC cards actually sold well...
That’s what I don’t get. Singles for Prizm or Select never got that crazy yet the price of the wax stayed consistent or went up. It really feels slimy. Who’s buying this and what is the plan? Are they opening it, group breaking it, or hoping that it’ll keep going up? I’d rather buy a box of Metazoo than anything UFC related if I’m looking for a sealed investment. while I do agree that the current price is outrageous, it is a bit of an over statement to say this should be a sub $100 box. The checklist insures you will receive multiple numbered cards of the top 10 fighters who all sell well. I would almost be willing to guarantee that there isn't a box out there where the numbered cards alone will net you over $100 without even taking autos into account. that said, i agree with everything else about manipulation of prices and how ridiculous they are. |

I am at a loss at the $$$ these newbs throw at some Panini cards while not even bothering to learn the prior releases and fighter's older cards. Ignorance like that will be costly in the long run. It is the same logic as saying the UFC didnt exist until Endeavor bought it or Conor invented MMA.
As a business person... I do have to give Panini credit for hyping product and exciting the mob. Never seen grown men act so foolish for different colored cardboard. Give me autos and relics to chase... but don't insult me with colors... there is no intrinsic value.
I would take that bet after having watched a few opened. It's just lazy. They killed Select football with unnumbered color die cuts in retail... then they put out 20 SKU's with different parallels in each. |
Tried a 2 packs out of a fresh box @ Burbank today. I think I did alright...

I've been collecting for awhile now, and there are some newer/different fighters that I'd like to add to the PC at this point (no particular order): Jiri Prochazka Khamzat Chimaev Brandon Moreno Bryce Mitchell Ciryl Gane Michael Chandler Marvin Vettori None of them have any cards in previous sets. I'm not trying to support Panini's monopoly per se, but if I want those rookie cards - what's a brother supposed to do? I'm not breaking any overpriced wax either; just chasing singles. |
Panini does have some nice rookies... but also surprised they released them all in prizm.... should have saved a few for select or chronicles.
Myself, I have been after a few as well.... and have bought into some case breaks. In hindsight, should have just spent the $$$ on the specific card I wanted and not $$$ on breaks. Its all a gamble. What makes me laugh is people saying Prizm was one of the shortest print Prizm sets ever, like that means something. Look how many Bloodlines Khabib rookies are out there and compare that to a rookie from Prizm. Topps' UFC sets were truly short printed.

It can take ten years for people to wake up. |
Dang, this set is deader than a doornail. Not trying to a hater, but Panini has helped tank the UFC market a bit. Granted, I don't think the UFC market was all that hot, but coming out with boxes priced at where they were at almost all but guaranteed that these releases would come and go like a fart in the wind.
Can't wait to see Immaculate come out at $1,200 a box or something stupid like that. |

Hasn't pretty much every hobby product released in the last few months tanked 35% or more from presale/initial pricing? |
4 blasters I bought from a random retail site for $28/per shipped today, should be making a retail appearance soon.

Still about $375 too high |
Got two push notifications about the sale prices on these. Safe to say, they don't seem to be moving. Anyone who paid the $800+ per box at release has to be kicking themselves.
|
Been seeing blasters pop up in my area this week. Grabbed 3 from Target earlier in the week, and then Walmart nearby stocked about 20 or so this morning but decided to hold off on buying more. Only opened 1 so far and it's a fun rip but at 28 a box it's hard to justify buying too much.
|
unfortunately blasters are the typical chronicles junk. a bunch of trash paper cards with a 1 in a million shot to hit something numbered.

He's a great fighter but I don't see him / that division ever being super popular. There's no challengers there really so he'll be champ for a while. So if that matters then he goes up, but not a super star or someone the general public cares much about. I'm just throwing out my opinion.
