Default To chop, or not to chop? Fantasy Football Championship Game

Our matchups are settled regardless of MNF, so I'm in the championship! 10-team PPR. 1st place gets $325, 2nd place gets $125. Most regular season points also gets $100 (which I already won). It was a $50 buy-in.

Here's my team:

QB - Newton
WR - Hopkins
WR - Megatron
RB - Freeman
RB - Woodhead
TE - Reed
W/T - Will Tye
W/R - James White
K - McManus
DEF - Kansas City
BN - Tannehill, Beckham, McFadden, J. Allen, D. Robinson

Here's my opponent's team:

QB - Carr
WR - Julio Jones
WR - D. Thomas
RB - David Johnson
RB - Hightower
TE - Gates
W/T - Crabtree
W/R - A.J. Green
K - Gostkowski
DEF - Seattle
BN - T. Taylor, Draughn, Hillman, Spiller, Watson

It seems like we are pretty evenly matched. Obviously Beckham likely being suspended is going to hurt pretty badly. I have 1 move left before I reach my max, so I'm going to try to get Markus Wheaton or Stefon Diggs (drop Tannehill) and start at W/T (although, with OBJ out, Tye may be a reasonable start).

Anyway, I know my opponent well, and he'll probably be willing to chop the pot with me, giving each of us $225. I don't have a good feeling going into Week 16. I'd like your input. If you were me, would you chop the pot, or press on?

Honestly, I'm not looking for any "you came this far to play, so play!" type inputs. I want to know if you think I will win or lose.

Thanks!

In a situation like this I usually do a partial chop. Meaning, we split most of the $, but give the winner a bigger cut. This way the game at least means something. Grats!

Ha, that's a great idea! Maybe like a $175/$175 chop, then $100 to the winner. I like it!

This. Winner takes $250, runner-up $200.

Chop? In fantasy football?

Why even play?

The amount of ridicule alone would send someone to the roof of a top building if anyone asked to chop the championship game in any of my leagues.*

*Edit - And that's not because my leagues are so great and yours suck. What I mean is that the biggest thing you win in fantasy is bragging rights over your friends.

There is some subtext here. The league is disbanding after 10+ years, and not on good terms. There's not going to be much pride in winning this year. :/

With ODB out split the pot and call it a day. If you still want to have the game mean something, make it $200 each and play for $50.

Was going to ask about the title/bragging rights issue, but this post answers that. If you don't feel overly confident, take the chop.

Congrats, BTW.

I always do a chop, even if I have the "better" team, something like $100/$100 and play for $50 on a $250 prize pool. Too much can go wrong on any given Sunday.

Drink a beer, flip a coin, take the chop if you can get it anyway you can, it's just guaranteeing you more money. I'll take a guaranteed $200, over $125 any day.

i always offer the chop or partial chop as suggested...i would also offer the $275/$175 or $250/$200....

if anything it makes more sense to chop since if you are playing for bragging rights...then you both get some cash but winning still matters..(and gets more money)

my league last year....its 24tms- two seperate 12tm conferences...then the winner of each conf. plays in the super bowl....$175 buy in....so there is a lot of money....

me and my bro split the team...we got to finals...the payouts??

champion: $1800
runner-up: $600

no effing way was i willing to risk that big of a swing....thats crazy to me...we were confident but nothing in FF is a given....

so we contacted guy and offered a $1400/$1000 split...he agreed....we won...and i had ZERO regrets about that....

I agree with the chop. Make the game worth 50 bux and chop up the rest. A side note tho the math doesnt work for what you said you bought in for. 10 teams times 50 is 500. So you get 100 out for most points. Pot is now 400 and you said 325 and 125 thats 450. Sorry kind of a numbers geek lol

Ha! You're right, buy-in is $60. $50 goes toward main pot, $10 goes toward most-points pot.

We decided on a $250/$200 split, with a minor blowout clause that if either team wins by more than 25 points, the split will be $275/$175. We're both happy.

There has been more uncertainty in FF this year than any year I have ever played. I think there are literally only like two RBs that were in the top 20 both last year and this year. I mean, look at our starters ... David Johnson, Hightower, Freeman, Woodhead, James White ... who would've thought.

Update on the matchup:

I am up by 22 points, going against Thomas and Green with McManus left to play. I did start Will Tye, and thus the Beckham suspension could very well end up costing me the trophy. Our league is PPR but 20 yards per point, so my projections are:

Thomas - 8/80/1, 18 points
Green - 4/60/0, 7 points (Talib)

This means I would need 4 points from McManus. I'm quite nervous.
