I see a Conforto approaching $150 for a base auto on eBay. Spoke with another BO member saying this is a terrible buy and that it would be $50-60 in the winter. Anyone else share that same train of thought? Conforto seems to be good, but $150 a base auto? Seems a very very over the top for me, thoughts?

So the moral of the story is never buy auto prospect cards at release?

I'm not touching the Conforto subject because he has some big time fans around these parts, however, the first base auto auctions almost always sell at a premium and then the market establishes itself in 1-2 weeks when the supply catches up to the demand. In other words, don't expect his base autos to be selling anywhere near the first couple of auctions in 1-2 weeks.

Not always. Rare color is often cheapest when the product first hits and you can find some great BIN steals if you get lucky.

I think it is lots of buyers trying to finish their 14 draft sets and are willing to pay a premium to do it now. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at half that in 2 weeks. Mets fans can be rabid though.

Conforto autos are going for more than DeGrom autos. One won rookie of the year and is one of the top 5 best pitchers this year....the other has been in the bigs a month or two. The world is backwards.

I had the Mets in two cases last night and pulled a blue and a base. In the 5 cases he opened, 4 of them had Confortos. Blue, refractor, and two base

Hit the nail on the head...shouldnt this be a wake up call to Topps to insert a 13 prospect/14 rc bowman auto in another product to actually give degrom his "true best one"? theyve done it with bryant/conforto...

DeGrom is also a pitcher (although a darn good one, per your point), but speculators and investors no longer chase pitcher cards anymore due to fear of injury. Just like in football, where no one puts too much $ in non-QBs anymore...
