Default Current players no one is buying right now…

Who is no one buying right now? There’s probably a good reason for reason it… BUT some of these guys could have a bounce back 2025.

Here are three “Players no is buying… but maybe they should?!”

Julio Rodriguez
Corbin Carroll
Michael Harris II

Who else you got? I’m not looking for any buying ideas, I just think this could be an interesting list to come back to in September/October 2025.

Full disclosure: I’m not buying or selling a single card from any of these three this off season and have no plans to.

One player people are still buying is Wander Franco.

Heh

That’s why I specified “current”. Wander’s MLB playing days are over.

Boggles my mind why anyone would buy any cards of his right now.

Definitely a bounce back candidate whose cards are in the bargain bin.

I did just buy a card of his, but it was to complete a set. Only reason I can see to buy him right now.

Take a guy like Julio, even if he has a great season......so what? Seattle is not going to compete. This dovetails a bit with the salary cap thread, but when you go into a season fully expecting say the Dodgers to run away with it again, I just don't see people really wanting to spend big on players that appear to have zero chance to win.

I've been picking Carroll stuff up and there are at least folks bidding against me. J. Rod falls more in the players people are still buying and they probably shouldn't category to me. I'd toss in Riley Greene. There are also some vets I think fit the bill with Lindor and Julio Ramirez being examples.

Seattle has won between 85 and 90 games each of the last 4 seasons and missed the playoffs by a game last year. And 2023 saw an 84 win team make the World Series. Literally everything you say is wrong.

They have zero chance to win the ws given their current roster construction.

Yet the same would have been said about the Rangers at the beginning of 2023.

The weak division gives Seattle a chance at the playoffs. Combine that with their rotation and they have a chance once in the playoffs. Their lineup is what if going to hold them back though.

2023 was before Dodgers went full eff you mode. Injuries can always happen, but mlb just feels too top heavy now.

The Dodgers don't play in the AL and if Seattle were to make a playoff run, they would have by far the most frothing fan base imaginable. The level of success needed for Seattle to be beloved is incredibly low.

That said, like even winning a World Series doesn't really make you that collectible. Corey Seager is amazing, has 2 WS MVP and he's not really a hobby entity. Corbin Carroll made a WS and while he sucked for the first half last year, he was quite good the second half. I still don't see what he can do to get people that excited.

Call it the Ohtani / Judge effect. When there's a guy who just went 50/50 and another guy that hit 62 then 58HR, there's little any player can do to stand out. Maybe a triple crown, but that's about it.

And yet one of the hottest players right now did neither and plays in small market KC.

Some of the things you listed are reasons why people are staying away… BUT tons of legit hobby darlings have played on teams that had no chance of winning. Take Ken Griffey Jr for one example.

I paused my Riley Greene buying, but I could be easily convinced to buy more… haha. Still looking for a sharp TC RC gold #/50.

As a Ranger fan I hope he does. Looked great the last 2-3 months of the season.

I've been buying Gunnar, but he has significant downside. His stuff that I want isn't even on the market, the golden mirror PSA 10 and the chrome ssp PSA 10. other than that I don't really see upside potential in a lot of guys. Julio, Carrol, Harris seem like they'll have respectable careers, but that isn't going to bump their value.

I can confirm no one is buying Lindor... except me. I just picked up three great cards for about $80 total.

I could be convinced to buy a few Giancarlo Stanton cards on the off chance he gets to 500 HR. Only 71 away and his stuff is below dirt cheap.
