Default Question for you all... To Open or Not?

PLEASE DELETE IF NO ALLOWED

Hey All,

I have a interesting question and need some help.
Just trying to get some information and see what I should do.
Got myself a jumbo 2024 Topps Chrome Update box from Topps, and not sure if I should open it or trade it in (most likely at my local hobby shop)

I know they have gone up in value (especially due to the Paul Skenes Lottery goin on), but I always love cracking wax.

Obviously I will come to my own decision, but would love to hear what you all in the forum have to say.

Thanks for any or all feedback and I hope you have a great rest of your day!

We need dollar values

What did this cost you and what could you sell for?

Not all of us know

Well, if not opening, definitely don't trade it in with your LCS.

I assume the whole reason you don't want to open it is to maximize return in its sealed form. Trading it in with your LCS would get you credit for singles/wax (I also assume) at higher than market prices.

If not ripping it, sell it online (off-eBay) or in-person (e.g., local card show).

Ooooh thanks for the heads up
I guess in person would be better

Maybe at a local card show or something would be a great idea

Seriously?

This is an open all day. That spread is garbage

$200 triggered this thread? That’s two dinners out for a family of four

If you don't need the money right away keep it sealed, if you need/want money right away take the win and move on. If you just want to rip for fun and don't mind a possible big monetary loss do that. Just whatever you do don't have regrets!

$200 profit is better than opening and losing $300

It’s more of $50 worth of cards or $600.

Are the jumbo box a the boxes to get for a best chance to pull the skenes? I ask because if they are, I’d keep it sealed as perhaps the price will go up and up until the scenes is pulled! Once skenes is pulled, sell for what you can get! (Or open for fun)

thanks for all of the comments

skenes is definitely the draw, but the debut patches are still very hard to get and tend to bring a premium and they have done a lot of them this year compared to last (i believe)

I also understand $200 is not a lot to someone, but i was just asking a simple question

my apolgies

The cut off for 2023 was 5/31/23. 2024 had a full season worth of games. That's why the checklist is so much larger this year

I would sell, and take that $200-$250 or whatever you make and get a nice card for your PC. Let's be honest, all that's in that box is a reliever auto, if you are lucky.

No need to apologize.

The spread here is likely bigger than the $200 mentioned above. Let's say $650 is what you can sell it for. Odds are breaking this will have you come out with $100 in value if lucky. That's a likely $550 swing. Sell that box and never look back.

Boxes were meant to be opened.

Crack it and enjoy your hobby, if you have the financial means.
