I was able to catch three minor league games on my trip to the Carolinas; Fayetteville, Myrtle Beach, and Durham. Here's what I gleaned from those games;

1) The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have a bat dog.

2) Welbyn Francisca is definitely a hit over power type, although he did put a charge into one for a 2b. He's small and small framed and still raw, so there are a lot of ways he can get better and he's already producing. He didn't look great defensively, but he's so raw I don't see any reason he can't stay on the dirt.

3) Austin Charles is as big as listed, but very awkward with his swing. He doesn't have great bat speed or pitch recognition at this point. He's still young enough and big enough that there's a chance, but I came away very disappointed here.

4) Jaison Chourio didn't give me much to work with offensively (1 for 2, 2 bb) and most of my defensive focus was on Francisca. Chourio did make a few plays and he's got an average arm.

5) I was not impressed with Ralphy Velazquez. He's a big dude that doesn't have much room for growth. He wasn't catching and looked very uncomfortable at 1st base.

6) Blake Mitchell was at DH and hit an absolute smash for a homerun. He looks significantly more athletic than Velazquez.

Any updates on Emmanuel Rodriguez? I know he was on the DL in June with a sprained thumb. He re injured it in early July but haven’t heard anything since.

We got an email with the AFL schedule, but I can't find it online anywhere. It was back to the old timeframe, starting October 7 and ending November 16. Both of the tripleheaders were on the west side, Fall Stars and HR Derby at Sloan, the play-in game is at Scottsdale, championship at Talking Stick.
