Because:

"The value of the stolen statue is more than $75,000, city officials said, but they added the value of what was lost is much bigger."

We’re living is a Fallout world minus the ghouls.

Well, maybe minus the deathclaws.

That's prob the cost to replace not the scrap value. If that's the scrap value either bronze is worth a ton or they would have needed heavy machinery to move it.

First thing I thought of...

"More than 160 monuments and memorials to the Confederate States of America (CSA; the Confederacy) and associated figures have been removed from public spaces in the United States, all but five since 2015. Some have been removed by state and local governments; others have been torn down by protestors."

"How many military bases will be renamed?
In addition to renaming the nine installations, the Naming Commission recommended renaming hundreds of other items, including streets and buildings on military installations."

Maybe someone who is pissed off about the whitewashing of American history decided turnabout was fair play? The below quote is why I am not cool with renaming historical monuments and locations.

George Santayana (16 December 1863 in Madrid, Spain – 26 September 1952 in Rome, Italy) was a philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

OK, beyond the conspiracy theory... I think it was scrappers.

It's sad. I live where this happened. League 42 is an awesome opportunity for inner city kids or kids who can't afford to play baseball and are able to with this program. It was founded by one of our Sports writers/broadcasters. It has been around for about 10 years. People here are outraged.

Anyone else expecting DFWCardshark to have this listed on his eBay by the end of the weekend?

After looking at the pic of that statue, that has to have taken a few people to take. I’m not sure if it was cut above the shoes or attached a chain to a truck that was around the statue and it was snapped off. Hope when it is found. It can be soldered.

Statues generally honor the revered. To remember the misdeeds of history, well, that’s what books and documentaries are for.

Removing a statue is not whitewashing history. The books are all still there and go into detail about the traitorous crimes the confederacy committed.

Statues are for heroes and McDonald’s characters.

Removing statues of confederate generals is the opposite of white washing.
