That’s how we all initially felt about FUSM and that set did great. I think this one will do well too. I still think they should have kept PMGs in the FU products as Medallions aren’t collected as heavily.

I hope the Jambalaya insert set has new characters. It's starting to get watered down.

Agreed.

Medallions instead of PMGs in this set was a bad move.

Default 2024 Upper Deck Fleer Ultra Marvel Wolverine

I think the set will do very well because of Wolverine/X-Men.

Now will the marvel collecting base be exhausted from the glut of marvel sets by next May (or whenever this is coming out), that’s the question.

Did they have to keep the slashes/over design on the base like FUA though, sheesh.

Someone definitely went overboard with the slash overlays LOL....the base card art variety looks great though! Medallions look decent, but I don't care for much else of the set. Loving the FUXMW from 1996, I was hoping this would tug at my heartstrings a bit harder but overall I think I can skip pretty comfortably. MM22 pretty much sealed the deal for me in terms of modern collecting...I don't imagine I will collect any sets other than MM, assuming I continue with modern at all. I might go extra hard in MM22 and then call it quits.

I’m kind of in the same boat, not gonna be going for most of these extra sets. MM has drained me anyway.

They could have gone one of two ways with this set. 1. Make it an analogue of the 96FUXMW set, have just a couple insert sets like a 3x3 connected set and a mirage set. Or 2. Fit it into the now standard UD Fleer Ultra formula. They obviously went the latter, which isn’t surprising I guess. At least the 3x3 connected image set continues to be a part of the formula. And props for the original art base.

The base art is looking much better than FUA and Midnight Sons. I still wish they would've taken the best of the best from these last 3 sets and put out one nice Fleer Ultra set. But then I guess they couldn't pad the product with cheap-ass rehashed art inserts, ugh.

I just realized that 3x3 is a Hildebrandt piece. Anyone know if it's unique to this set or a reprint?

It's a new Hildebrandt piece...but I can't say I'm a fan of it Spidey Hits jokingly asked if he was rushed to provide this piece, and I can understand why...

Yeah a little underwhelming but still cool that he contributed. Wendigo casually strolling up like Wolverine forgot his change, lol.

That Wolvie vs Hulk is the 3x3? So a card is just gonna be a part of someone’s arm? That’s a different kinda format, these used to be one/two characters on each card, coming together to make a team portrait.

Oh well, nice to see Hildebrant on the set.

I noticed FUA had about 50 amethysts per character though unnumbered, Midnight sons will have 35 amethysts per character numbered and the amethyst is completely gone for this set’s product description. Curious.

Some of it looks interesting so ill probably pick a few cards up but can't see me doing much opening as im sure it will be overpriced

Also, the 3x3 right side 3 cards are going to suck to get, definitely would have preferred to see something with more characters in it

Agreed. I hope they go hard on the Wolverine theme (rather than more general Marvel or X-Men) and make the set more focused on his allies and enemies. You could still do characters like Jean, Cyclops, Psylocke, Jubilee, Gambit (has he appeared on any yet?), Spidey, Cap, etc., but then get like Sabretooth, Cyber, Daken, Deathstrike, maybe even some deeper cuts like Tiger Tyger or Mariko.

The Jambalaya designs have been very underwhelming in recent years, in my opinion. This one seems no different.

Yeah, the painting doesn't seem to fit the format. We'll always have the awesome 1994, 1996 and 2018 versions, though. I wonder who owns those paintings.

Yep that 1994 Fleer Ultra X-men 9-panel was one of the highlights of collecting marvel cards as a kid for me. That painting would be a grail to say the least.

The 2018 3x3 painting looks to be on sale on Hildebrandts Spideyweb art gallery for $35k and measures a little more than 3x4 feet. Given what some marvel card original art has been selling for recently, that does not sound like a bad deal, but way out of my realm of affordability.

if you think Hulk's arm/Wolvie's arms is bad, what about the lower right, of Hulk's butt? LOL

I know Jambalayas are a carry over from sports, but I just don't understand the hype for them. They remind me of those knock off dog tags you find in a mystery box. At least Metals have a slick design.

I think they're pretty slick. I normally just grab 1 per set of a character I want. Got the Captain America for FUA, will get the Deadpool on this one. I just need a Howard the Duck Jambalaya to exist and I can die a happy man.

I dont understand the allure of the Jambalaya inserts either, art on the sets I have seen have been mediocre at best and the shape of the card is also off putting for me as they move around in sleeves and top loaders etc..

I didn’t like the inserts either when I first started collecting and thought it was an easy insert to pass. Over time, I’ve come to target them. I like exclusivity and I also like consistency across multiple sets. I only collect the fleer ultra, metal, masterpieces, premier lines of marvel cards. I like to collect inserts that appear across multiple sets. Jambalaya is one, century ex is another. Idk why the hell MM decided on the preserved in amber but now I have an interest in that.

Specifically with jambalayas, I like the exclusivity. They are short printed (maybe 100-150). It’s hard to find one that’s perfectly centered as they are commonly cut weirdly, but when you do find one, you’ve found a rare card that’s now more rare. They are also attainable and realistic to complete, they aren’t going to cost you PMG money and there’s only 20-30 of them per set release. As a set collector, this is also an appeal. If I was a character collector, jambalayas would likely be a pass for me.

I do admit they have some of the worst art on them, but as long as it’s passable it’s a go for me. I’m already too invested with jambalayas from the FUXM , FUSM and FUA sets.

D&A is showing a release date of June 12, but Flair just dropped yesterday. Does this get pushed back again?

If anyone has updates, please share.
