Exclamation Shifting from Modern to Vintage

Realizing how much stuff is truly being pumped into the market and deciding to make the switch. Picked all of these up yesterday. Will continue to update the thread as I pick stuff up and as stuff comes back from PSA.

Nice. I remember getting Cliff Mapes in a '52 set break. That was it for breaks for me.

I only snagged it because of the condition.

Are those all from a local shop? If so they have some very quality raw vintage.

I still buy one Topps set every year but I got tired years ago of the 18 different variations of the same base card. Give me vintage everyday. Classic uniforms, classic stadiums, classic cards. Enjoy Vintage.

Nice choices! Can’t go wrong with the ‘56 set.

I’ve recently picked up raw copies of the ‘72 Clemente and ‘56 Mays myself.

Make sure to use a ruler or one of these when on the hunt. Raw vintage is the home of trimming and altering more than new.

Measuring up cards is important, but also a loupe to check out the edges. If one edge looks weird to compared to the other three, something may be off.

It is from a shop in a neighboring state. Stumbled upon it randomly. There is just boxes of vintage that haven’t been gone through in years. The Mantle was loose in the back of a binder.

the rare vintage box that hasn't been gone through in years will certainly inspire a move into vintage.

Anyone going from modern to vintage, please never watch a Sports Card Investor YouTube video. This was downright embarrassing when they tried to guess the vintage grades. The 1956 cards were a downright embarrassment.

I can't put my finger on it but something about that guy just rubs me wrong. Don't know him or anything about him but from the few videos I have seen I feel like I just visited a car dealership and can't wait to get out of there.

Yeah definitely made it a lot easier to get into it.

I agree. I don't know what it is either.

I'm getting into the same boat. All this 'shiny release of the week' stuff is pretty, but also gets quickly forgotten. Vintage will always remain solid gold.

I picked up my first Mantle, Mays and Clemente this week and I love it.

Post some pictures of them. I’d love to see them.

Yep.
Recently watched a couple vids of a guy (name escapes me) who is being sued by him for some made up bogus reasons.
EDIT: Just found one talking about the guy (Geoff Wilson) but there are many more.
As I know nothing about what he talks about in his vids regarding Geoff, I am not assigning blame or guilt, however, as I clearly don't know the whole story. (There are many more vids from this guy talking about Geoff)

Same. I dumped my old mans vintage a few years back and got into modern, now just reversing the process. Apparently I have to much time on my hands.

For someone to start into vintage, what years would you say is the best to look at? I want to pick up cards here and there for PC. I don't want to come out guns blazing either. I wouldn't mind picking up $5 to $20 singles to start. I do like the look of 1959 Topps, but without a ton of knowledge of the 50's and 60's sets, don't know if that would be a good place to start.

I would start to dabble in any sets/players/years that may have caught your eye in the past. Start there and see where it goes.
It's a journey - I got into vintage years ago when I realized I could have some cards that I always thought were super cool when I was a kid. The more I explored, the more I found more interesting things, such as realizing that owning a few T206s wasn't just attainable, but even easy. That lead to T205s and so on and so forth. Start with what captures your imagination or heart and keep on following it.
