3 RBI double! Not a bad start to the season!

Let’s see some high-end Oneil’s!

Very sweet. I pulled a Bowman paper #/5 from a retail blaster.

Also worth noting:

-Hit was 112.9 MPH, sets highest exit velo for Pirates this year
-Threw a ball from short at 96.7 MPH, fastest infield throwing velocity in MLB this year
-Scored on a sac fly at a speed of 31.5 ft/sec, 30.0 is considered elite

And also a 6'7 shortstop. He'll be very fun to watch this year.

Apparently he was the 3rd highest topic trending on Twitter last night and also had a 5 minute live interview on MLB network. His stuff is soaring right now.

I am kicking myself now for passing on a #/2022 gold for $30 at release, but I did grab one the next day for $40, and a gold foil for $20. There’s currently a #/10 acetate at auction right now, it’ll be interesting to see where that ends.

If everyone hasn't listed their Cruz cards within the past 18 hours then they need to have their sanity questioned. Same with anyone buying Cruz in the immediate future.

If you treat cards like stocks, then yes, those people should sell. I just collect stupid crap just to collect. I’ve been collecting cards and comics for 30+ years and have barely sold anything during that time. This is just a hobby for me. I enjoy buying low on young players then either having cool cards of their I got for cheap, or tossing the cards on an ever-growing stack of forgotten players. I have no interest in “timing the market”.

I'm with you. For me this is a hobby, not a job or a side hustle.

That being said, this guy looks like he could be a real star and I'm happy to have a nice stack of his cards already. But I'll let the ebay hustlers fall all over themselves to make a couple bucks this morning.

He's been the most obvious buy in the sport all year. I cannot believe what people were paying for Khalil Watson and Curtis Mead while his stuff was sitting there...

why would you sell? To buy Elly de la Cruz, in the hopes that he might become as good as Oneil? Nobody else comes close to matching this skillset, and it's an exciting / hobby-friendly one.

Didn't realize Cruz has been anointed as an unparalleled talent after 14 MLB at bats and hitting .233 in AAA this year. Classic Blowout delusion and/or pump.

He didn't reference his stats; he referenced his skillset.

Also turns 24 at the end of the season. He could still end up being a very exciting player, but the pumpers are desperate to anoint the next flip.

You didn't realize Cruz was 6'7 and could play SS with +power, +run, and +arm? Did you not read any scouting reports over the last year and a half or watch him at all? There's no delusion in the skillset - what he does with it is still up in the air of course.... but if you're buying prospects and/or young mlb stars, there's hardly a better buy out there.

Acuna? sure, he's about as good as it gets.

Tatis? big injury risk and doesn't seem to be taking his injuries seriously. At their current prices you could argue Cruz is a better buy.

Soto? A guy who's bat is his calling card, and yet he's hitting .218 this year - and while his BABIP [measly .213] should rebound, his LD% is down 9% from 2019. That's kinda scary. Gimme Oneil at their current prices.

Not trying to defend cloctsa, but anyone in the flip game who got in cheap on Cruz, should probably sell some of their cards to at least get to a break-even point.

If flipping is your game.

Agreed.

Don’t think he’s going to be a superstar, since the Pirates suck at developing players.

But he might be fun to watch for a while until he is traded off.
