Default Space Jam: A New Legacy (Upper Deck, 2021/2022)

2021 Upper Deck Space Jam: A New Legacy retail blaster boxes are out. MSRP at the Upper Deck Store is $24.99 (limit 2). Blowout competitors are selling blasters for $39.95, which is absurd for just five packs of six cards each. There are two retail exclusives: a Ready to Jam rainbow foil insert set and a Neon Blue parallel base set.

Hobby boxes with three hits won't be released until February 9, 2022. Hits include autos, sketches, patches, film cels, lenticular cards, and Cosmic Relic cards. Auto odds are rough with overall odds at 1:120 Hobby/ePack and 1:1,200 Blaster/Mega. Want a LeBron James auto? It falls at 1:234,160 packs.

Cardboard Connection has a retail checklist available with a full hobby checklist TBD.

The movie came out in July, so the retail blasters are coming out several months later and the hobby boxes even later. I wonder who the target market is for these cards. Sports collectors? Kids? Autograph chasers?

The original Space Jam has a huge following. I'm not sure how many people are fans of this one.

I guess it will appeal to Lebron collectors and non-sports collecting fans of the film.

Depending on who they get to sign, there are some big names in this film. Also, I collect animation autos, so I'd buy any voice actor autos, as those will probably be cheap.

Will the Lebron autos be more common in hobby/epack?

Posted a few scans in a different thread, but I opened a couple retail blasters from Walmart recently. Pulled a Lebron, which I initially thought was a base card:

Turns out it's actually numbered.../799 lol

More likely a scratch off grand prize. Lotto probabilities aren't set in stone. Thats about all I can say on that. Lol.

The Cardboard Connection checklist is confusing. They say its the retail checklist straight from Upper Deck but point out it has hobby/e-Pack odds for a lot of items, including autographs. The specific odds for individual autographs aren't marked hobby/e-Pack, so who knows.

That's a retail exclusive Ready to Jam insert card, which has a ton of parallels:

Red #/999, Blue #/799, Yellow #/599, Orange #/449, Turquoise #/349, Pink #/249, Purple #/199, Green #/99, Black #/25, Gold #/10.

Props to Upper Deck for trying to get these cards to collectors. The other big two don't give a damn and instead of limiting bots they raise MSRP.

UD shipped these super quickly and I got my 2 boxes today. No hits, but still a nice looking set. The lenticular cards look really sharp.

I think I will save up and collect this set when it hits ePack next year. The couple sketches I have seen on eBay look nice too.

I couldn't agree more. Retail packs shouldn't have 60% mark up shortly after release.

I’ve given up hope that it ever will, sadly.

Definitely. A well done, full color Bugs Bunny sketch would be cool to have. Not sure if I'll open another box - will just wait to see what surfaces.

Some sites were trying to sell blasters for $40 last year.... now $15. I wonder if hobby boxes will fall?

I might try to pick up couple looney tunes sketches on epack or comc.

I went to my LCS recently to see if they had any new singles in stock, but I didn't see much.

Decided to buy another hobby box of this so that I didn't go home empty handed...and, sometimes, the card gods throw you a bone.

Hobby boxes have already fallen to $69.95 online. I wonder what UD prices this on ePack? They increased the MSRP of products where box prices rose on the secondary (eg MUSM) but will they lower prices for sets that are tanking at hobby? They kind of use the whole “achievement “ thing to get loosey goosey on ePack pricing. Looks like this one and Spider-verse which is also tanking will sit awhile if ePack priced too high.

Very nice sketch!

I got a 20 box Blaster case for $185 during Black Friday.
Will be opening on Christmas or soon after.
Getting an auto or sketch are still very hard, even with an entire case, but I will get several Film Cels & 3D cards.
I got the SSP LeBron several months ago, so there are so fairly valuable cards that can be hit.
Not sure what is better at this point: 3 hobby boxes or 20 box Blaster case?

In sign 2,432 that COVID card boom ship has sailed… same competitors now have lowered HOBBY box prices down to $60. Not a bad deal but still not touching (and I’m upthread having bought 2 blasters at $50 total through UD).
