Questionable Breaker/Twitter Flipper

I won't name names but from I've gathered on Twitter, this guy works at an LCS (does not own it) and wants more than anything to make a name for himself in the hobby.

First, he was trying to sell a 2018-2019 Optic Luka purple for $800 raw on Twitter. The thing is sooooo horribly off centered it's laughable, would probably get an 8. I did some research and the same card with MUCH better centering (also raw) sold for $510 on March 1st. So I politely called him on it. He shot back that one just sold a few hours ago for $750.....(no where to be found). Again, I was polite but ended the conversation that hopefully a newb doesn't buy this card thinking it will gem...because it sure as hell won't.

Second, this guy is desperately trying to fill a soccer break. He started posting about it yesterday. Damn near begging people to buy teams. Then today....he says "UPS is almost here! Let's get this filled so we can break as soon as it arrives!"

So I chimed in with "So you are selling break spots without the box in hand?"...he comes back with "well, UPS was supposed to deliver it yesterday"....Ok...That still proves you didn't have the box in hand when you started selling spots.

Maybe I'm just bored at work on a Friday afternoon but for some reason, this guy just rubs me the wrong way. Seems either too eager or willing to take a slight advantage/short cut.

Thoughts?

I don't think it's uncommon to sell break spots without having the box in-hand yet.

On the Luka, sounds like he just has the card overpriced. If the centering is visible, then I don't see it as a big deal. There are way more nefarious things going down on Twitter.

Every break I've bought into were with LCS's that had the product in stock...so maybe I've taken that for granted. also, I always see eBay listings for boxes that stress "IN HAND!" hah, so maybe that's why it raised a question mark.

as for the Luka...I commented something like "hopefully no one thinks this will gem, it's a 9 at best"

he responded "Yep. Likely a 9 based on inspection. Only hit would be the centering. Though a 9 is still a solid grade on it.

Wouldn’t let anyone believe this has a chance at a 10. (I wish)"

I'm trying to upload the photo of it. But based on comps with better centering...$800 is asinine. I've gotten efficient at finding comps but someone new to the hobby might overlook that kind of thing.

2 PSA 9's sold for $800 and $1k this week.

Ok Other raws were around $500, but at today's market, a couple weeks for now, may be they are all over $1k.

He can always name the price he wants to sell it at. He doesn't necessary have to follow the market. Just don't buy it if you don't like the price. There are tons of overpriced cards on the internet.

EDIT: Actually, there are 2 raw BINs on ebay now listed for $1.6K. So.................

Honestly sounds like you are just looking for something to complain about. End of day the card is the sellers he is allowed to price it at anything he sees fit. If you don't like the price move on no need in getting pissed off over it and calling them out.

As far as the breaks it is not unheard of for breaks to be sold and filled for weeks before the product hits so again no biggie.

Every breaker lists breaks for spots before they have product in store/hand.

Did he say it would gem? If not, then there was no reason to add your opinion.

Also, people sell spots in breaks all the time without having it in hand. In fact, a lot of breakers will fill breaks before they even order the product to make sure they can cover the cost of the case.

I've had the occasional random message on ebay about some of my pricing.
One guy recently felt he just had to tell me that a set was overpriced and "worth" about 50% of what I had it listed for. Then he hit me again the next day to tell me he picked up the same set for a "better" price.
Yippee! Good for you! blocked. go fishing elsewhere.
OP- if you don't like a price, that's fair- just move on. Getting in someone's face about it is just looking for trouble.
And def don't bring it on here if your own listings are bloated. The local cops will sniff you out in a hurry.
