Hopefully this is an appropriate ask in this thread?
Has anyone made a thread for local trading? Thank you, Dennis Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What part of SoCal? LA area or San Diego?
I know there are a bunch of us here in the LA area. We've never really had a meetup that I'm aware of or started a discussion thread. |

Its really hard due to LA/so cal traffic.
I live in Torrance. Its nearly an hour drive to Santa Monica, DTLA, and Frank and Sons. Wife and I have gone to a few concerts at San Manuel Ampitheatre....its like a 2 hour drive on a Saturday afternoon. I'd love to trade to fill in sets. I have more Archives from this year than I can shake a stick at with as many as 6 of certain cards, but still missing a few base cards. I'd be thrilled to trade rather than buy. Some people on this board have been very good trading partners and $3 shipping seems more appealing than a long drive in LA traffic. |

Yes i agree that anything outside of a large lot is much easier to ship regardless of LA location.
I am looking to either purchase or trade for larger lots mostly Topps Flagship. I know that many case breakers do not spend the time sorting base/base inserts and i was looking to see what the market is. Shipping 3200/5000ct boxes can be extremely expensive regardless of location and if you have multiple boxes its almost a nightmare. So i was looking to see if anyone is looking to get rid of Huge base/base insert lots from case breaks. Thanks for the communication everyone. |

What about dang ol beers and a meal? Wives meeting, etc. I know Im super jonesin for a real live card friend these days. The wife and friends don't really wanna talk about the allure of the Topps Black RC or how the Jumbos are poop...

I'm pretty close with my LCS owner in Studio City. It's kinda central between Hollywood and the SFV. So if people would be interested, I would be ok with trying to get him to set up a trade night. He'd be open to breaks and pack wars, etc. Could be a lot of fun!

i would be very willing to do this. I think once every couple months would be great. From San Luis Obispo to Calabasas, CA over 150 miles there are no LCS.
Have to travel to SFV for the nearest shop. |

No card shops in SLO anymore? That's sad to hear..I grew up going to Rich Gove's ol Central Coast Baseball cards downtown way up at the top of that historic office building in that little closet from 85'-87'. That was about 5 years before his dad was senselessly killed in a robbery.

I'm interested. I agree with LVDan, I simply have NO ONE in my life to talk cards with. Friends are into other interests. My son is too young to know what a card is. Wife borders between not really caring to having cards remind her about how much money I spend - not exactly a fun conversation, lol.

Slo does have one but nothing in between it’s scary. Seems like this is picking up some steam so Im very interest at least for this simple conversation/shop talk aspect of meeting up

I live really close to the upcoming Pomona event and going to Frank and Sons seems like a waste of time now. I was there maybe 6 months ago and was shocked to see how few sports cards dealers there were compared to other collectable stuff.

I live in southeast Los Angeles county almost at the border with Orange County. In Whittier there is Jimmy's USA, but there aren't too many other outlets. I collect Topps Heritage, mostly 1-725 sets with the variations. Except for 2 responses off of Craigslist over the past 4 years, I haven't had any luck finding anyone who deals in SSP singles I need to complete my sets from 2009 - 2015. Frank and Sons is about 20 minutes away from my house but their selection is poor unless one wants to shiny autographed stuff, which I don't collect. Back in the 70s through the early 90s there were many shops as well as local and larger shows to pick items up and singles to complete sets. Most of the action seems to occur on the west side of L.A. County and I seldom travel out that way unless it's to see a film or vist one of the museums. I know that the Target and Walmart stores in Downey and La Habra sell Heritage as it comes out, but it's not really worth purchasing a box when I don't collect the chrome, autographs or relics.

Anything's better than the one tiny show they have here.
I'd love to find out if there are better options around here. I do have yet to visit a couple card shops here though.

Here in OC area there are a few shops but the markup on my nearest LCS stops me from frequently buying anything other than supplies and occasional singles. OC Dugout was good for singles and pack wars but they're pretty much done with cards now and are mostly memorabilia

The bullpen isn’t TOO far from you. Ask for Mitch.
Also Burbank sports cards is good for sets too. Does that help? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You sound like a guy I sold some stuff in Whittier to. He had a craigslist ad and I sold him some Heritage and New Goudey stuff. He didn’t like the chromes or autos either. That was the only time I sold locally in the second biggest city in the US. There is nothing here. All the good shows with the awesome guests are NOT here. It’s kind of a bummer because there were lots of card stores before. Now I have to drive 30 plus minutes to Burbank if I want stuff now. There is a place in Monrovia called Hall Of Fame but the selection is subpar and the price is high usually. I’ve just come to the realization that like everything else , it’s online only. Card stores are like book stores and record stores, relics of a bygone era. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I just moved out of LA a few months ago... does anyone go to Matt's shop on Robertson?
I used to love going there and getting some Komodo on the way out.

jimmy's USA is a nice resource, and it's possible to find single cards, but the selection is slow to change. There isn't a lot of walk-in business from the surrounding community which also impacts selection and sales, but Jimmy is a kind, gracious host and has an encyclopedic memory of the hobby dating back to the late 70s. When possible, it's a nice way to pass a lazy Sunday. |
