Ozzie Albies

I live in South Carolina so the Braves are one of the few teams I get to watch pretty regular. I am surprised no one is talking about Ozzie! Not because he is doing out of this world things, but the power he has shown recently. I broke a lot of 2015 bowman over the last couple of years mainly searching for Devers and Severino and accumulated a nice chrome stash (no autos). I remember asking someone’s opinion on here one day about him (was considering grading a large portion of the Chrome) and it seems he was going to be a slap hitting second baseman. Obviously he is hot right now, but do you all think the power stays around or just a fluke? One more thing as well. I have now opened 3 hobby cases and two jumbo and never pack pulled him or a Rosario auto. Were they SP that year? Looking on eBay there are not a lot either. Any opinions, conversation is welcomed. Before it starts, check my eBay. I seriously own 0 autos.

hes the nl version of jose altuve but few know this yet. i have been trying to acquire as many flagship and heritage parallels as i can over the past month or so with modest success.

I believe those who are invested in him are hush hush at this point. not much supply and undercover demand is a great mix for collectors. the good stuff that shows up on ebay gets snapped up very quickly by a few of us and is still relatively affordable.

Interesting. What are your opinions on whether or not the 15 base auto is SP? Just looked at Rosario on eBay and there are actually quite a bit, so I think I just had bad luck with him. Albies on the other hand has more color than base listed right now.

He was not an SP. I bought a handful of these at launch and they were plentiful.

i have one base bc auto for the pc but i cant really offer any insight on whether it is sp or not. my card has 10 centering and a 10 auto and i can say these subs are rare fwiw.

based on your first post and the relatively sparse ebay population you very well may be correct.

I guess I would be curious what you think he is doing that is worthy of mention? I have not seen him play so can only go off stats and he currently has an OBP of .291 so was curious what those of us not watching are missing.

a very general view...

i believe he is still the youngest player in the show. has a nice power/speed combination. some of the fastest hands in the game. solid defense. will line up with acuna and freeman as the core of what will likely be a very good baseball team in the coming years.

he is swinging too much right now but that should ease as he settles into the game.

Saw him and Swanson play in AA and he was BY FAR the better of the two IMO. Like another poster said, he has lightning quick hands, which should help him hit for some power despite his tiny size. I think he'll be a .300 hitter with good defense and a possible 15-20 HR/20-30 SB annually at maturity.

Haven't looked at much of his actual plays on footage, but just looking at the numbers, he seems to be one of the most under-rated/overlooked rookies from this year?

Man, I was hoping he would have a quiet season so I could stock up. Wanted him to have a Heritage auto while he was still cheap.

I don't have much, but have a chrome auto and Heritage Black refractor. Wanted a Topps black, but always bought something else when I had the money smh.

Albies is not Altuve IMO, although I called him "Altuve-lite" about two years ago. I don't think he'll ever have Altuve's power ... most of his 5 home runs have landed in the first row. But who knows ... maybe he's growing into previously untapped power.

Wonder what the MLB game record is for number of ABs with an RBI. Albies has an RBI in each AB so far. Guess the record is probably 6.

I had a purple and black plate auto I sold a while back. Definitely regretting it.

I had two of his autos sell in the last hour (and I only have/had 3 listed).
Bowman Inception base auto for $20 and Bowman's Best auto for $18 (auto was a bit streaky on this one).

Stuff hasn't moved much from a month ago. And his chrome shouldn't be 1/6th the price of Acuna. It will work itself out. Play the entire season at 21.
