Very cool for OKC...

But someone explain the math to me. If the Thunder want to bring back Paul George (and lets say he wants to come back) plus Melo is absolutely going to exercise his player option...

This current Thunder team could cost $300+ million after tax in the 18-19 season.

Clay Bennett is worth how much again?

At least one of George and Melo are going to have to be gone.

Agreed... but there is no way that Carmelo is going to turn down his option. Who else is going to give him 30 million bucks?

So that was sort of my point. I like what OKC did, might as well go all in I suppose, but basically they've committed to Westbrook and Melo now instead of George.

Unless they can find a taker for Steven Adams I suppose.

Agreed. If they really crap the bed, both of them might leave.

I just love the fact he committed to this team already. Would've been easy and understandable to wait and see how things play out..but he's all in. Excited for the season!!

But they wouldn't pay Harden.

Glad for OKC.. I thought he was gone to LA Clippers but more I heard people like Jalen Rose an Royce White talking last few days I figured he would stay

Well at time they had KD so chose to pay Ibaka because of his size, defense plus raw scoring .. whoops :/

The year after Harden left, OKC had the best record in the NBA, and was the #1 seed in the West.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda is what everyone wants to say, and everyone points to the Harden deal as a bad deal for OKC. The Salary cap was in a completely different stratosphere at that time, and Presti was building for the future. It would have been the Big 3, with ZERO bench. He was building quality depth, and a quality bench.

Hindsight is 20/20, but you'd be hard pressed to find a GM in the NBA, that has been more successful in making moves to continually make their franchise better than Sam Presti in OKC.

They can make all the moves they want, I love seeing them lose every year, hopefully they drop the ball again this year, no pun intended.

But yes, KD 4 MVP is something I can get on board with!

They could still sign George and in theory just eat the tax for Melo's player option season.

Also, no guarantee PG stays so then another Melo season isn't AS bad.

I would in no way condone this, but if you have George do you need to pay $10 mil a year for Roberson? If George were to sign long-term would it be necessary to keep him?

If the google machine is accurate Bennett is only "worth" 400 million. 300 would be a big nut even for one season.

Obviously there are other minority owners and more money floating around. For all I know he has a billion dollar minority owner partner.

But you better take GS to 7 games, or win, if you bring back the same team

Now you could shop Adams and Robertson like you said

$40 mil a year my goodness
10 years ago we'd be gaping at a contract worth even half that

Which I would hate. I think it really hinges on PG13 and whether he stays or goes. If he stays, you pay him and figure it all out later.

I have no idea what percentage Clay owns, but I know the Thunder are owned by a group of 8 business men and just one of those (George Kaiser) currently ranks #170 on the Forbes 400 List.

I think the Thunder are worth more now, and even more if they're winning like you stated, than any amount of luxury tax.

I doubt they let another James Harden situation happen. FWIW Kaiser wasn't part of the ownership group when Harden was dealt.

Will be interesting

I just don't see all 3 back unless they at least make the finals this year

But this throws a wrench in that Westbrook/George/LeBron group so who the hell knows
