I have the biggest card yet in my "Ohtani and Friends" PC on the way. I'm almost certain I overpaid for it but I simply don't care. I'll share an image of it when it arrives.

Quick status check from Aug/Sep. The only way some of us thought Sho cards would NOT see a break in prices is if the Dodgers make an improbable deep post season run and Sho comes into ST healthy as a TWP.

Can't wait! Overpays (at the time) are the most fulfilling buys!

I'm comfy overpaying for it as its a pop 2 with 1 higher and there hasn't been a copy in any grade sold online for at least 3 years so far as I can tell.

I feel like if the Dodgers win the WS, that + the 50/50 season will have put a new floor on Ohtani prices.

Maybe another floor gets set when/if Ohtani gets MVP #4 which will put him on top other than Bonds.

I think most of the writers have already conceded that Sho is going to win MVP every year he plays both ways at + level. 2022 was the exception that I don't see repeating with the current NL talent pool.

I would be a little disappointed if he didn't get five. Anything beyond that depends on his pitching evolution toward longevity.

Hey, since you sell on ebay I figured I'd ask you, does it mean anything at all if a seller increased the BIN price on a listing after you already bought the card? Any idea why someone would even do this? This isn't something they could even have multiples of since its a PSA graded card so they'd also have to update the image.

I don't know why a seller would do anything but take down a card if it has been paid for.

If you reached out via eBay and the sold on a different platform, seller may be trying to trick eBay into thinking the sale wasn't diverted by leaving the card up longer, and increasing price so it doesn't sell..edge case though.

Only other thing I could think of is they woke up in the morning, decided to up the price on the listing and did so without even realizing it sold already.

I'm probably just being paranoid lol.

Nah, I bought the card for BIN price ON ebay. That's why this is super confusing.

The paranoid part of my brain is telling me that he realized he doesn't want to sell at the price I paid and plans to cancel me and relist at the higher price. I snap BIN'ed it same day he listed so maybe he thinks he left money on the table.

I don't (can't) forget about even a $20 card I sell, so I think your suspicions are warranted. There's a lot of fomo with Sho stuff and people are greedy.

Is that a different copy versus the one that ran on auction a few weeks ago? I just assumed it was shilled, not paid, and relisted.

Nope, exact same one. More and more, I'm just starting to ignore all consignment auctions for this reason.

The good news is that these shady sellers (or consignors) will eventually get desperate enough and end up selling for less than organic pricing when people get sick of the games.

Turns out I might have been worried for nothing. Seller just provided eBay with tracking number to the authentication center.

new sellers always seem to enter the Sho market when he gets hot. This leads to a lot of unprofessional communication and mistakes. It's the same for any sport, but we just see it more with the unicorn.

Finally pulled the trigger on Shohei’s 2018 Bowman pitching card. Still need his Bowman hitting card but can’t decide on which version. Paralysis by analysis.
