Who is going to be the core of the next good Red Sox team? I am assuming Xander and JD are not coming back. I am also assuming Devers is gone next year if not sooner. So then Sox have Story, Dalbec, Duran and....? That doesn't look promising to me. I know they have 3-4 position prospects who seem like they could at least be starters by 2023 or 2024 but it doesn't sound like any have middle of the order superstar potential.

Dalbec and Duran are not even worth mentioning in any core discussion, Ill be surprised If both are even on the team come a year

Good news, looks like Sox are close to signing Mitch Haniger aka Trevor Story lite. It should be a fun season to see those two in the middle of the line up for a combined 50 games in between trips to the IL

If they do not retain Xander I cant see them shelling out a ton of money for any of the marquee shortstops this winter, especially with Mayer a year away

I don't think written off is the word

I'm honestly just over this saga, if the red sox really wanted him they would pay him not play this dance. So at this point if he signs with them cool, if not I wish him better luck elsewhere.

This to me is just another sign that Henry is getting ready to move the team and doesn't want any last minute "major" spending. There had been reports that he's seriously looking into an NFL franchise, and between the two, I'd wager that the NFL is far more lucrative at this time.

As a fan, It really annoys me because we haven't held onto any home grown talent for any length of time other than Xander. If he goes what type of message does that send to the locker room? Or to those in the farm system? You can be a leader here, play AS caliber ball year-in & year-out, and we'll still ship your ass out. I really pity Alex, can't imagine how difficult it must be to get an organization to buy into that type of culture right now.

If they lose Xander and Devers, I don't know how this ownership group/front office comes back from that. This Red Sox team for 2023 and 2024 is likely a last-place team if they don't get serious. My only hope with the recent reports is that the Red Sox know they have a chance to match any offers, so why make an offer now and bid against yourselves. But I don't really believe that with this front office, so I hope Xander goes to a huge market and he crushes it and helps my undervalued Xander PC haha

I doubt from all recent reporting that either will stay, the Padres and Phillies seem to be serious contenders for Xander, and Devers will get silly money from some team other than Boston.

With the front office going farm heavy this past few years, my perspective is that they're trying to make the team more appealing for those looking long term. With Marcelo and other legit prospects a few years out, and a relatively low (AL East speaking) payroll moving forward once JD/Xander/Devers are off the books. I could see the Sox being sold within the next season or two.

Henry's group has been the best ownership we've seen as Red Sox fans, so I don't want to seem overly negative. My Grandfather died without seeing one WS trophy, and would have loved to have one, so I feel fortunate. However, it doesn't excuse this dumpster fire these past few seasons.

This franchise should always be "competitive" with the likes of the Yankees & Dodgers when it comes to FA spending.
