The time of year when the leaves change colors, the crisp fall air and morning dew, playoff baseball, Sunday football with our biggest fan cheering on The Birds! What a great time of year! How great is that?!

Exactly he finished the season, I am hoping that next year we can just see some of the old trout statistic wise.

Pretty sobering read on the guy that was the face of baseball for so long in the 2010's.

It is really crazy how Trouts career is panning out.
He would look somewhat similar to Albert Belle, but Belle had a single, significant injury that derailed his career while Trout has seen a steady and steep decline due to multiple health issues. For some reason, his body was not built to hold up into his 30's he also does not, nor has ever had any desire to leave the Angels to go to a contender. He is perfectly happy right where he is. All the "free Mike Trout" signs etc are all for nought. |

Find it surprising that Trout only recorded a single 30/30 season, that being his rookie year. Granted, there's a degree of flukiness to it. Cedric Mullins, Ellis Burks accomplished it, Alfonso Soriano did it four times, Howard Johnson did it three. Without the benefit of Baseball Reference, I would have guessed he accomplished it several times. It's not necessarily indicative of the best players, but for a guy who was a five tool talent, only once strikes me as surprising.

Crazy to think that he's going to go down as the 3rd best player all time from the 2018-2020 Angels.

Every time Freddie Freeman gets another legendary playoff moment I think Trout really really needs just one of those. It is amazing the amount of casual fans who do not watch a single baseball game all year but catch a World Series game or at least know what's going on by updates. A lot of people have no idea who Mike Trout is but they know Freddie and you better believe they know Ohtani. At this point I am not sure what Trout can possibly do beyond getting some of these playoff moments to not ultimately be forgotten.
I am old enough to know that Griffey is a terrible comparison to Trout, he was Jordan and Gretzky level back in the 90s and still ended up with over 600 HRs which is a counting number people actually remember not just great WAR. |

I've made this point in here a few times, much to the dismay of big Trout fans. He carried the hobby for years, but he has no charisma, playoff success or memorable moments. Even at his peak he really wasn't transcending the game - which is important for long term value. To me, he's not a guy that people are ever going to tell their kids they watched, nor do I think any 10 year old in the year 2045 is going to get excited to pull a legend auto of Trout. Sort of an odd case of a lowkey superstar that didn't really end up hitting the achievements the hobby placed upon him.

A few people said he had a very notable catch to rob a home run early in his career, but that pales in comparison to Ohtani pitching and hitting the in the Playoffs/World Series, Pujols hitting 3 Home Runs in a World Series game, Judge hitting 62 for the Yankees, or the many moments Jeter had. The other Catch 22 with Trout right now is that as he marches closer to 500 Home Runs, (the only major career milestone he has a chance to hit), his batting average takes such a hit. For years he was a .300+ guy, but if he sticks around long enough to get to 500, he'll end up sub .290. So again the people that didn't get to see him play aren't going to be blown away by his career numbers, when a guy like Eddie Murray hit 500 while batting .287 as well, and also got 3,200 hits.

I asked this question too here a while back: What is Trout's big moment that people remember?
Carrying the hobby to the pandemic, when it became cool to collect

I mean that in 20 years, when looking at the list of all time greats, Trout will be behind Ohtani and Pujols. I guess he already is.

For a little context… here is a list of top 20 MLB jersey sales in 2025. Trout doesn’t even crack the list while Harper and Machado (who came into league about the same time) still are popular. Trout’s popularity has flatlined.
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers Aaron Judge, New York Yankees Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers Francisco Lindor, New York Mets Juan Soto, New York Mets Rafael Devers, San Francisco Giants Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies Jose Altuve, Houston Astros Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres Ronald Acuña Jr., Atlanta Braves Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati Reds Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays Pete Crow-Armstrong, Chicago Cubs Pete Alonso, New York Mets Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates Manny Machado, San Diego Padres Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners Source: https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/most-po...25-season.html |
