It's hilarious watching people go gaga over a product that few collectors, if any, will actually want.

You can probably count the number of soccer fans who know who Steve Aoki is (I don't) and care that he designed a set on one hand.

Note that there isn't even a thread about this product on the soccer boards.....

Bought my 2 Aoki UEFA boxes (easy decision).

Bought 15 Mantle X boxes (harder decision, not as high on the product but wanted to have a little position in it in case I underestimated it).

Said differently, since parallels/autos are 1 in 5 its safe to assume a box would have been considered 5 packs, so only 25k-28k boxes printed.

I'm stopped at 100, but it's not as overprinted as it initially sounded.
It seems pretty overprinted to me based on my calculations. There's 125,250 packs which means the base cards will have a print run over 12,000. If you open 100 packs ($1000 worth) you've only got a 7.26% chance of hitting an auto. I can't imagine the 20 #'d parallels are going to cover the cost, but maybe I'm missing the appeal.

Also its another variation of chrome..I don't think collector's care about Aoki's name being attached to it..it's more another limited edition chrome offering

Honestly, very fair. Could go either way on it depending how you feel.

I think if you aren’t buying any, I wouldn’t get FOMO as we have a ton of releasing coming soon.

Aoki > Baller
UEFA > Baseball

If baller MLB can do $300 on eBay, why couldn’t these? FYI - Probably opening mine.

Are we serious about relevance of Steve Aoki? Dude has 8.2 million followers on twitter and is one of the biggest names in EDM and has been for awhile now.

Who knows....maybe they will.

I'm just pointing out that most actual soccer collectors couldn't care less about them.

The market is going to be gamblers/flippers/investors trying to make a profit off of other gamblers/flippers/investors.

So?

How many of those 8.2 million Twitter followers are soccer card collectors?

And how many of the few who are soccer card collectors are willing to pay ridiculous prices for a product that is essentially a parallel of a parallel just because it has his name on it?

That's not the point. It's soccer and soccer card collectors will buy it.

I bought 80 mantle packs. Will be fun to put the set together with a small chance for an auto.

A few may, but most couldn't care less.

I've been collecting soccer cards for 25+ years and am pretty knowledgeable about the soccer card community.

Most soccer card collectors are actually real collectors who enjoy the "hunt" (since many mainstream soccer cards were released in very low numbers and are therefore fairly hard to find).

There is very little interest among soccer card collectors for "gimmick" products like this...

As I noted upthread, the thread discussing this product in the soccer forum has 21 posts in two weeks.....that's how much interest there is in this product.

UCL Aoki, no brainer.

But I think people are going to look back a year from now and ask "where did wax flipping turn upside for me" and they're going to track back to this mantle x release. Cool product, but it's for collecting all the way - and there's nothing wrong with that.

And most actual baseball fans/collectors don't even know who Ben is to begin with, let alone care for his Chrome edition, so what's your point?

I don't collect soccer cards, but there seems to be some buzz about it on social media - at least twitter and the card discords I'm in.

That the market among actual collectors for these type of "celebrity" driven products is actually much smaller than people think.

Baller at least made a name for himself last year via Project 2020....almost nobody in the soccer card community knows who Steve Aoki is or cares that he's making a soccer card product.
