Trout literally limping to 400 is like watching a high school track meet 1200m. There is always a kid last, very last, who has been lapped twice by the top 3 finishers and yet when he does cross the finish line he gets the “you did it” clap.
If a healthy, slugging Trout achieved 400 HR a few years back like we all thought, completely different.

the five plus years remaining on his contract. He'll then get a chance with
another MLB squad for a year or so which could get him 20 or so home runs.

I figured he'd drop enough bombs to hit the mark. Not looking so good now.
I guess his lingering health issues will continue to erode his play.
To his credit, he's managed to accumulate 500 PA for the first time since 2019. I honestly didn't think he'd get there after his IL stint earlier in the season.

He still needs another 101 home runs to reach 500, which means he'd need multiple more seasons of at least 500 PA to do so.

I think it's time for a position player to come in and help him get #400.

The O's have a position player this year that has took to the mound 4 times so far often throwing 35 mph heat....but he hasn't given up a run yet. Lol

Same can be asked about Machado who's at 368 and just turned 33 in July. I doubt he gets to 500 but IMO has a better chance than Trout. As many have said I think a change of scenery and becoming a full time DH will help Trout's psyche and numbers.

will it? he has been a DH all year. it must be a decrease in bat speed. having to start the swing earlier to get through the zone resulting in more k's and less contact

His bat speed was higher this year than it was 2 years ago.

that may be, but i wonder how controlled that bat speed is. let me explain.

some pitchers can still throw as hard, or very nearly as hard in their late 30s as they did in their late 20ś. the difference is the ¨ease¨ with which they can do it. in their late 30ś, they are giving max effort often to the point of losing some control and movement. 10 years younger, they can more easily reach those speeds with a more free motion.

i wonder, if Trout is swinging out of his shoes to try to maintain bat speed and because he is putting so much effort into it, he is losing some bat control.

Personally I just don’t think Trout is motivated.
LA sucks, and has mo desire to win. I admire his loyalty all those years, and he had hope, but you can see on his face he’s done trying to carry that team. Once Ohtani left, it was the last straw.

As far as guys able to do more post age 30, I heard once gifted hitters like Bonds got better as he aged. Like some sort of fountain of youth he discovered. I even heard rumors of his helmet size increasing. It’s totally possible to be better post 30 than before… totally natural and normal.

I’ve noticed this on his cards for several years now. Almost the only place I ever “see” Mike Trout.

Did notice the headline that the Angels have now managed 10 straight losing seasons.

But I did see his third At Bat against Milwaukee on Thursday night. Seemed still very professional Hitter…but were those foul balls from defending the strike zone, or from bat speed?

that's not how averages work. If your pitching velocity or bat speed is decreasing that will be reflected in the numbers.
