Please no!!! As entertaining as it would be, there are too many examples of derby participants falling on their faces in the 2nd half. He may not have to change his swing as much as some players, but I really don’t want to see that happen to him.

Going to be the second time an Angel loses the MVP because someone hit the triple crown

Batting average will be the last thing voters look at in Ohtani’s case.

A few pickups arrived that I was really excited about, but I am having a rough streak of bad luck with raw cards.

The Stadium Club SSP is one of my favorite Ohtani RC. Such a great picture. I am not sure what the print run is, but I could almost care less because it is such a cool card. Thrilled to have picked one up on my budget.

I was a fan of the Icons card the first time I saw it. Very clean and balanced.

Both looked great online and at first glance in-hand. The condition of the Icons card surprised me because I took a chance on getting it from Comc.

Until...

I expected imperfections coming from Comc but a corner crease like that is a real Debbie downer.

Strike 1.

The SC SSP came from a solid seller so I was hoping for a very clean card. The speckled white dots from the finish peeling off dashed those hopes.

Strike 2.

Then when putting this action HHN into a new case I noticed a few nicely sized dents from the previous owners fingernails.

Strike 3 for the day.

I realize the drawbacks of buying raw and don’t expect every card to be a gem. These glaring and unexpected issues still stung a bit!

Buying raw cards today really is getting tough no doubt

Imagine if he won 10 games on the mound, hit 30 home runs and a had 20/20 season to boot.

That would be amazing, but I don't see him getting 10 wins...also I don't think wins should count for much.

COMC is basically a dumping ground for busted cards that the sellers don't want to have to deal with on eBay. Aside from how shady the company is, I personally have bought 5 raw cards from them (4 separate transactions) and gotten 4 trimmed cards. Small sample size but enough for me to never bother to deal with them again.

I can't begin to imagine the amount of altered stuff people have bought that aren't well versed in detecting alterations.

Not arguing with you but figured I would share my experience.

4,391 cards sold and 907 cards purchased on COMC. I've never had a single problem with anything I've bought or sold and shipping times have been fine for me through the pandemic and before. The scans are usually clear enough for me to tell and I've purchased many cards that have Gem with PSA and BGS.

I need to do some extra planning when thinking about when to ship and giving them enough time to do so but otherwise my experience has been great.

Tonight’s game is YouTube only, I believe. I think that absolutely crushed my particular chance to watch it via going out for a nice relaxing visit to a sports bar. Any thoughts on that possibility appreciated.

No argument taken. I certainly don't have a monopoly on the truth. I could have just been extremely unlucky.

Ohtani is currently 8th in wRC+ of 142 qualified MLB hitters -- 3rd in homers. He's 23rd in ERA- of 138 pitchers with at least 40 innings -- 8th highest strikeout rate.

Three more Ohtani’s on their way back from PSA via an impulsive Super Express sub. Can’t wait to share. All three of them are great, but two of them absolutely don’t suck.

He's also leading the AL in WAR, leading the MLB in XBH, and first player in AL to get double digits in HR and SB.

Oh yeah, he's also the starting pitcher tonight

Will be buying Ohtani All-Star jerseys, and HR derby jerseys too if he enters.
Money just flying away.

Very excited to see Ohtani pitch against my Tigers tonight. I am hoping he has a great performance, but the Tigers win in the 9th against the bullpen. Would also be great if Matt Manning performs well too!
