I think it’s pretty simple. If he doesn’t win a MVP or get to the SB then his prices will not maintain imo. Like TJ said, if he isn’t there than most likely another young QB in the AFC is. That would take some of Patty’s market share.

While I tend to agree, there are many other variables that needs to be taken into account. During the COVID pandemic, the world gained 5.2 million new millionaires due to surging stock market and housing prices. US accounted for nearly a third of that 5.2 million. Global wealth is expected to rise a further 39% over the next five years to reach $583 Trillion by 2025, while the number of millionaires is forecast to jump by nearly 50% to 84 million individuals.

So how does this affect sports cards market? The collectible and alternate investment market are expanding. Add in the crypto money and crypto millionaires. Mahomes rare and high end card prices are much higher than they were in Feb-Mar after the SB loss. I could have sold my Mahomes Gold Vinyl for 250K in April thinking that the upside is limited after the SB loss. Fast-forward to four months and I passed on a 685K cash offer on it last month. Perhaps the ultra rich and crypto millionaires do not care about the championship rings. They want to own something that they can enjoy, be it something tangible or not. Look at the prices of Cryptopunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) for example to understand what I am talking about.

Don't put all the eggs in one basket. Diversify into real estate, stocks and collectibles depending on your risk tolerance. We will see corrections in collectibles market when the economy, stock market and crypto market all crash. I am bullish on the collectibles market long term, especially the rare and sought after items because I am bullish (long term) on the economy and stock market despite short term corrections/crashes. Whether Mahomes cards will still be sought after in 5 years or not, only time will tell.

As Jay mentioned...

"you want to "invest" in something tangible that gives a passive income, capital growth and if you have a great accountant and some taxable benefits....buy or develop property....flats, units, townhouses etc....#@#@#@#@ that can't break it's leg or get injured. Alternatively.....throw the dough into long term etf stocks that yield high returns and never take a cent out for 10+ years.

Sure... there are a ton of factors that will play into the market. Most of which is out of our control. However, my statement was simply looking at Patty’s prices in a vacuum. There is only so much money to go around. If he doesn’t win a MVP or go to a SB then that means money will go other places imo. Especially, in the AFC. If Josh Allen wins a MVP and SB this year, it’s undeniable he’d take a good chunk of Patty’s market share.

Me personally, I have 0 desire to own a football card that isn’t Tom Brady or PM15. It’s very very difficult to get back to a SB 3 times in a row. Only been done by 3 other QBs. I love PM15, but you have to be realistic the run he has been on is pretty wild.

At this point last year I owned 80% PM15 and 20% TB12 for my football portfolio. Now those numbers are reversed and I’m pretty happy about that with a long term outlook.

I have also been moving some money from Mahomes into other players such as Brady. I also would not collect anyone other than PM15 and TB12. My point is what if the market evolves and collectors do not care about championships anymore? Hence my example of Cryptopunks and BAYC. What if they care about overall accomplishments and want to own something of their favorite player that they can enjoy. I am not saying championships do not matter but what if they do not in the future because the market evolves? What if no other QB is as good as Mahomes in terms of overall accomplishments in the next 10 years? What if the sports card market expands in terms of market cap in the next 10 years? Where would that money go in football other than Brady, especially if the other QB's overall accomplishments are not as good as PM15's?
