Last night on ebay a Topps Dynasty 1/1 with a streaky auto and random patch sold for almost 2k. There were almost 200 watchers on it. I was surprised seeing that many interested folks. Trout excitement is picking up a little bit.

He didn't peak at 33, but Frank Robinson was still really good into his late 30's.Robinson had a dip at age 32, only to come back very strong at age 33 with a very Mike Trout-ish slash line of .308/.415/.540

Interestingly enough old man Frank Robinson had a pretty decent swan song with the Dodgers and Angels, before the Indians put him out to pasture.

I think Frank Robinson's 30's are a best case scenario for Trout, but such a scenario would secure his legacy. He would get 500 hr/1200 rbi/2000 hits. Its very possible I think. He remained one of the best players in baseball in 2022 and was pretty good for half a season in 2023. Just needs to stay on the field.

Spring training for full swing and no bumps in 2 weeks.

I wonder when it's safe to buy Mike Trout again.

I wouldn't touch a Topps Update pop 6,640 for $1,000, but at some point would have to think that any 2011 Update Black or Hope Diamond would be a great card to pick up. Even a nice condition Update Gold would be a nice card to have.

He got hit in the ear flap with a pitch yesterday. He got really lucky that he turned quick enough otherwise it would have been straight in the face.

That's an insane pickup - what serial number is it?

Also picked up some Trout this offseason, albeit way more appropriate for a poor like me (I noticed that's what we're calling my type now ).

Do y'all think he can stay healthy this season?

Great card! Isn’t that the same one the Cubs super collector supposedly found in a Goodwill lot?

That's bold. He's likely to have a complicated legacy, but a legacy nonetheless.

Actually kind of exciting to see a guy at age 33 with so much left to gain or lose.

Umm, he’s still a 3x MVP who’s gonna be a 1st ballot HOFer, I don’t see him losing that short of something Bauer/Wanderesque.

Not if people keep throwing at his head like that.

Yep, and that makes him a HOFer, but depending on where he goes from here, it also puts him on the list of "What Could Have Beens".

For years people were calling him a top 5 or so all time player, and right now you step back and look at his resume and it falls well short of the Mays', Mantles, and Bonds of the world. He may even get blown by as the best player of his generation by Ohtani.

Trout is a tough one for me. I want to put him in the same category as Koufax, but Koufax's peak numbers were historic. Trout's numbers at his peak were great, but I wouldn't call them historic. Mind you though, a 14 year .299/.410/.581/.991 is great in any era and more than worthy of being a 1st ballot HOFer.

No matter what, he'll always be a what could have been guy because of the injuries. Much like Mantle. But Mantle had 7 ws rings and played for the yankees so there's that aura assigned to him. And his cards have declined to reflect the decrease in career projections. He will not be on the Mount Rushmore of greats but he can be in the Griffey Jr stratosphere of greats and that's fine by me.

If he can have a Tiger Woods like comeback and finish with 500, that's a hell of a career and bodes well for his prices going into retirement and beyond. Add in a trade to a legit contender and a WS ring and that's the cherry on top. I guess it's easy to say this considering I didn't buy at the top but I do have some decent cards of his and am looking to pick up more depending on how this season and the next goes.

if someone is worried about Mike Trouts cards its probably because they look at cards from an investment lens

100% Mickey Mantle and Bonds legacy comps are out the window. Griffey Jr comps are in play.

Who'd be down in regards to that?
