Nah, that’s a still shot that ignores context. He was coming from the direction of right field to cover first, so naturally his momentum was taking him toward home plate. The throw was woefully to his right, in the opposite direction that he was moving. It’s like the pass that’s behind the wide receiver on a crossing route. He looks bad when he reaches back and gets a hand on it, tipping it up for an interception. But the terrible throw made it happen.

I mean, watch the actual replay and not a still shot. The throw was awful for a major league second baseman.

In the pregame the pundits were not that happy with either guy. With probably a bias towards:
— Story rushing it (acting with urgency as if he was still SS)
— Dalbec with bad baseball intelligence

I still don't get what you guys wanted Dalbec to do differently. He was playing deep because it was a left-handed hitter and they were in no doubles. He had to sprint to get to the base and the ball went behind him.

I’m trying to find a video of it to post here, but just re-watched it for the first time

My read (as all the above was just parroting what I hear from talking heads): it look like he had plenty of time to set up at 1B (it was a lazy jog level of effort to get to 1B), but set up on the wrong side of the base and not prepared for a throw coming from Story’s direction
