You mean like the coming offseason lockout scare to tank the market? It will be steep and I can't wait

Does Ohtani have an innings limit this year?

Consolation prize was winning another TC Update batting RD Ref /250, but yeah, wish I were able to pick up more big guns. They are drying up.

I am picking up a lot of low end rookies that I will happily sit on until PSA reopens at a reasonable rate. Staying away from paper Topps unless SPd, but Silver Pack, TC, TC parallels, Finest, Finest parallels, etc are all great buys.

Going through some old photos... reminiscing about the good ole days... way, way, way back in the year 2018 when you could buy an entire 8-box case of Topps Finest for a paltry $725. That was the second to last case I've ripped since. I took this picture, because then, I was thrilled with my little haul...

Each card made its way to PSA. Each card ended up grading a PSA 10. I've parted with them all over time. But one still remains in the old PC...

Ah, the good ole days

Finest has some of his best autographs - before he started doing the lazy squiggly line thing. Beautiful card!

Question to ponder....at this point in time it looks like it is Ohtani vs. Vlad Jr. for AL MVP. Ohtani is doing his Babe Ruth impression while Vlad Jr. could win the triple crown. Assuming both perform at their respective current pace without injury who do you think will win MVP? When it comes to the MVP voters do you think his .260ish batting average will turn off some traditional voters?

That's an interesting question and as much as Shohei gets ++ points for pitching, he's going to have some - points for not playing every day. Thankfully it looks like there are only 5 more road games against NL teams...and he could conceivably pitch in two of them.

I think if it is indeed that close at the end, the nod goes to Shohei, but the way Vladdy Jr. is balling, it might not be.

Vlad will be in playoffs or close so he would get it. Long way to go in season though. I’ll be interested to see if Ohtani gets north of 120 games played. If he hits 40hr in 120 games it would be hard not to vote him in.

Also can they please get Ohtani in the HR derby!

If Ohtani can get to 100 innings and a sub 3.3 ERA, it's his. Guerrero is going to get knocked for playing half his games in a minor league park. If he can't get the triple crown and Ohtani doesn't get hurt, Ohtani is a heavy favorite in my book. Two big ifs

He’s on pace for 120+ IP as well as 45 HR and 115 RBI.

Assuming he comes anywhere close to those numbers, it’s going to be very difficult for him not to be MVP.

Yes, yes, yes, let's see this happen - fingers, toes, knees, elbows, legs, and eyes all crossed.

At the risk of coming across as a card-carrying Whoa-tani member, here is an elaborated look at his current ON PACE FOR numbers this season:

Hitting:
105 runs/44 HRs/112 RBIs/22 SBs .266/.346/.601 .947 OPS

Pitching:
22 Starts / 166 Ks / 116 Inn / 2.79 ERA / 1.17 WHIP 12.9 K/9

Aren't we having the conversation about where this fits among the best individual seasons in MLB history? I don't think that's unrealistic, given those numbers.

Agree...and if Vlad Jr. wins the MLB triple crown (1st since Mantle in 1956) he would also have a historic year. It makes the MVP argument very interesting. That is why I wondered if traditional voters would knock Ohtani down for his .260ish average (which doesn't mean much compared to his advanced statistics).

BA still matters even with all the advanced stats. The lowest BA I can see for MVP winners is Stanton at .281 in 2017. But he hit 59 HR’s that year. Ohtani’s pitching offsets the low-ish BA but I have no clue how voters will weight it. If he does win it with a .260 avg I think it would be the lowest of any MVP winner in either league over the last 60+ years. I think.

Wonder if co-MVP is in order?

That is kind of the point I am trying to make! I want/have a vested interest in wanting Ohtani to win MVP over Vlad Jr. (as I have way, way, way more of his cards). In my mind I feel like he sort of needs to get his batting average up to .280ish to make sure he gets the votes from those voters that view batting average as important criteria.
