It was a very long and sad day yesterday. It's always hard taking photos as you have tears streaming when the caisson vehicle comes by. The procession was very long and could have been twice as large if some of the intersection blocker apparatus hadn't left or came to the cemetery after their blocking assignments. A lot of the apparatus that went to the funeral didn't take part either.
It was estimated that around 380 apparatus were at Hollywood for the funeral. They took up miles of the shoulder and right lane; turning the road into a one lane road southbound. Other apparatus from VA, DE, PA, DC, and MD filled in at all of the St. Mary's fire stations. The majority of Naval District Washington FDs apparatus from Dahlgren in VA to the Naval Academy in Annapolis took part. Every piece in St. Mary's County was in the procession minus their boats. Tons of other apparatus from Charles, Calvert, and PG County took part with DC, Arlington, and a PA department. Where I was, the St. Mary's jeep club set up their jeeps with the backend facing the road flying tons of American and 1st Responder flags. There were even tons of Amish across the road waiting for the procession. |

I took photos of the Maryland flag arch setup at the entrance to the cemetery and the US flag arch setup on the street they were going down to get to the Leonardtown fire department. There were 3 other flag arches setup along the route.
I went by the Hollywood fire department to get their arch, but traffic was murder. Our chief was already blocking traffic as MDOT started putting the cones up to limit the road to one lane. The traffic backup was about 15 miles of people heading south. I saw out utility 3 times go by from Hollywood VFD to the cemetery as we volunteered for logistics help. We transported over 80 cases of water and then they just had us take the leftovers back to our own fire station. |

The owner of a business that our Squad parked at for it's blocking assignment bought our crew lunch and brought them water.
It was an incredible logistics effort for that procession to travel so far on major roads. Every intersection had to be blocked. When the procession went by the Leonardtown fire station, the police blocked by ways of Rt. 5 so they could make the final journey to the cemetery unimpeded. They had about 40 motorcycle police lead the way and then pull of and line the side of the road by the light to turn into the cemetery. |

On of our Life Members is the NDW Chief and sadly, he's been dealing with a lot of grief over the incident from the Navy; some warranted and some not so much. The 3-star Admiral was not happy that this planning and funeral took a week to accomplish leaving the base fire department thin. Air operations had to be severely curtailed yesterday due to a skeleton crew at the fire station.
There's also an investigation into the original fire. Apparently one of the Captains on duty, did not ride the engine; letting more junior people ride. The Battalion Chief never got out of bed to respond. The NDW engine was the 5th due engine and yet they drove so fast to get there, they became the 2nd due engine. If they had done their 5th due assignment, the member would have never been inside the house to have died. |

And sadly, two more firefighters died in Newark, NJ last night battling a fire on a ship carrying autos.
![]() That makes 4 LODDs the last week. |

It’s more fun to remind FT of his temper tantrum.

Question for bigdog if you are around.
Do you in the league you are involved in keep records of team rosters and if so how long do you keep them. The do you still root for your little league team thread got me to thinking that I don’t even remember a single person from my little league team coaches or players. Strange how in 1971 not even one person stood out enough to make me remember them. I don’t remember much from those days but I can remember certain teachers and a lot of the kids and parents in my neighborhood but when it comes to remembering people from little league there is a black hole. |

What’s funny is Stallone actually is trying to prove nothing is over with the Rocky and Creed movies.

I'm surprised that Ralphie thread didn't take off.
