I'd suggest picking up all you can now.

This is such a great idea. I hope someone starts doing it...in a classy way, of course.

I've been picking up cards I like from this set and got my 2nd card in hand yesterday. I know it's been said with just about every card, but they really do look sharp in hand. Paid 3x what they are currently going for, but oh well, I love how this one looks. Picked up a Gwynn yesterday at auction, so fingers crossed that one comes. Oldmanalan might be my favorite artist in the set. I'm a fan of his style.

So this has been the craziest ride I’ve seen in collecting cards.... reminds me of the wax craze in the late ‘80s, but all rolled into like 10 days!

Are others getting the sense that prices are still falling significantly, or have things kind of stabilized (prices nowhere near the mania of last week, but still an overall improvement over where things were like 2 weeks ago)?

I’d guess the latter but I haven’t been watching all of the cards this weekend- just a few I’ve been trying to pick up, that seem to have leveled off to some consistency.

The way I figure it moving forward:

-the high PR cards (80-100) are going to end up being ‘standard issues’ that everyone will have lying around and collecting dust (the Shore Griffey being like an ‘89 Donruss Griffey or ‘87 Canseco in your shoebox), you might just be able to get back the money you paid for them

-cards 1-50 will still see some pretty good returns, especially 1-20, but I don’t think it’s gonna get crazy again like last weekend

-except for a few outliers here and there, I’d guess that future PRs will be mostly in the 15-20K range. still decent for flippers but not insane (3-4x the original price), but also still attractive for set-builders (whether you’re going for all 400 cards, or certain player/artist sets), or people who want to pick up some cool cards but just missed out while sales were live.

That’s my guess anyway.

I haven't caught all the way up but heard Baller had his auction pulled on Ebay that was for charity. What was the card and why did it get pulled?

Semi seriously contemplating a book effort on this project. I’ve written two books, never published, that my friends and family seemed to enjoy.

Think there would be an audience? I’m not kidding. This has everything.

Go back to mid-last week. Prices were climbing and more and more people were getting on board.

A very popular artist gave the strong impression that something really, really big was coming and people deduced that was going to be Gary Vee pumping the project.

A very popular artist might have even said something like "buy every card you can get your hands on" because this is about to explode.

So buy they did. Over last weekend, cards rose 3x to 5x in value. That is insane.

For example the Efdot McGwire went from $199 to $985 from Friday to Tuesday.

I encouraged people to buy the Griffey Shore... I thought it would have a pr under 50k and still be worth ~$30. Easy profit. I was wrong.

Now the Gary Vee thing never happened... it still may but I have a hard time seeing Gary Vee put his name on a market in free fall.

The 95k print run is because people were buying these by the 100 and even 1000 expecting Gary Vee to make them rich.

95k is a disaster for the Shore, but good for this set. Why? Because it chases off the speculators and it makes many cards instant SP and even SSP.

The Tuesday & Wednesday cards still had people who purchased before the Monday print run was released. The only people happy about the Monday numbers are Topps and the artists.

However the Thursday and Friday print runs are getting pretty close to normal.

Speculators started dumping and the race to the bottom began. I respect that. Get your money.

However, just between us I want you to try an experiment ok? Pick a popular, valuable card that you like with a pr under 10k, ok? Then look at what that card was selling for on Friday morning May 22nd. Then look at what it is selling for today.

People are getting so caught up in the phenomenon from Friday to Monday that they are losing sight of what the set was doing before that. Just for a second, pretend that the last week did not happen.

The Efdot McGwire went from $199 to $400 (and may still correct more though). People are so worried that it dropped from $985 all the way to $400 that they forget it was $199 just a couple days before $985.

Look at the print runs too. The Blake McGwire has a pr of only 18k - about half the Baller Trout. Today's print runs were higher than that, but not by very much. If the last week had never happened, you might be inclined to think that today's pr is typical growth when compared to Blakes McGwire.

People hear "Gary Vee" and an artist with inside knowledge saying they should buy every card they can... and they eat that up. (BTW I love that artist, but he has a different perspective on this set than I do - 95k pr is awesome for him so he is looking at it very differently.) Those two things plus the popularity of this set created a tsunami - so many people buying big numbers of the Shore Griffey.

Now that the cards have corrected, the people that were watching from the sidelines are jumping for joy. Don't worry about that. When Judge slumped after the AS break his rookie year, the people that missed the boat threw a party in the judge thread. There were many "I knew this was going to happen all along"s. It's a Blowout thing unfortunately.

FTR I missed the boat and I am also clearly an idiot on the brink of financial ruin. So take it all with a grain of salt.

Well said.

I read a lot of books. It's very easy to self publish on KDP and I always say the world needs more books so I'm on board! BUT I would have to say that in order to get me to read it, you'd need access to at least the artists and maybe some of players to get their feedback on the designs. I know that's not going to happen.

I really enjoyed this book if you're looking for inspiration though: https://waxpackbook.com/

Please please please lets switch the topic to books or anything else ...

Only if you put Crying Griffey on the cover and it comes with a sneaker pump. I have ADHD so having something to pump while reading would be really helpful.

I wonder if topps has thought ahead to having some of these turned into t-shirts and other merch.
