I briefly tried to be a card "flipper" when i returned to the hobby but it just wasn't fun to me at all.

As soon as I stopped doing that and switched to just buying cards I wanted to own I was much happier.

Is the 2018 Ohtani Topps Heritage blue ink auto also a short print? Or just the red ink?

Ungraded.

Low end (for the most part, but there is nothing cheap about 2018).

Affordable.

I have spent most of my time researching and organizing (my true jam).

And (gasp), storing in a binder for ultimate enjoyability.

It has been fun and completely stress free.

His situational opportunities with no one on base / Men On Base / RISP is all over the place. He is unworldly with a runner on first but in RISP opportunities .225 W/ no power. He hits home runs with nobody on base but as a lead off batter and if it’s in the first inning that is great. Teams that score first win at much higher odds. Since he is a lead off / 2nd batter for most of the season that gives the Dodgers higher odds of scoring first.

His production would be even better if he can raise his BA in RISP opportunities. Ohtani is better than a .225 hitter in those situations.

Glad you are back in the game and having fun. Hopefully you are using a top loader binder (and not the old ones I used to use as a kid in the 90s).

Nah man, 9 pager, like the olden days (it fits better with my thematic approach to collecting (2018-2024 Topps Series 1, Series 2, etc.).

I've even bought a few slabs that I am going to crack out and binder up.

Killing me...I am seriously trying to keep my attention on my buy/needs sheet....but if I do this long enough, I may end up in some fun places, who knows. I am an addict in control, for now.

There are still a lot of good buys out there and so many different options and themes to focus for a collection. It's a really good time to collect.

If Ohtani hits 50 HR first before swiping 50 bags, imagine the chaos he could create every time he got on base sitting on 50/49. People would be taking photos like crazy right before every pitch, and he could totally jack with the pitcher by fake stealing 2B/3B. He could really troll everyone for a few days if he wanted to.

Opinions wanted

Would you rather have…

2018 Topps Chrome #150 Purple refractor /299 PSA 9

Or

2018 Bowman’s Best Gold refractor /50 PSA 9

Both would be valued at around 1k, although I can’t find any sales of the gold refractor so I’m going off other parallel sales.

Gold all day

Putple is as bad as (if not worse than) Green when it comes to Color

Haha, whenever Ohtani gets on base, Betts/Hernandez/Freeman better take a lot of pitches.

I agree about the purple. Just wanted to see what everybody thought about having a worst color from a better set than having a better color from a lesser set.

This ain't like purchasing homes where you want the crappiest house in the best location.

Not to mention, some people only collect gold across various sets too.

I know this is cheating, but I vote for saving your hard earned money and buying something else. Agree with others that purple is meh, but Bowman's best is not a premium set or especially good looking. Maybe a TC Blue PSA 9?

Gotta agree with Trueblue here.

I had a blue and purple BBest both in PSA 10 and ended up selling them both because I just don't think they're attractive cards.

EDIT:
Also, just want to add that you should never get hung up on what something is numbered to. That type of thinking is what led me to buy those two BBest parallels in the first place. I bought them both around the same time I picked up a PSA 9 #700 gold. At the time I sold all three of them, the #700 gold had more than 3x'ed in value and the BBest cards that are much more rare only went up about 10%. Pedigree matters more than rarity.

I thought about that too. I own the purple currently. I bought it a few months ago for $600 because I thought it was undervalued at the time, which has turned out to be true so far. The goal was to send it back to PSA as a crack out because the card is flawless in my opinion but it came back a 9 again

If it would have came back a 10 I planned to sell/trade it for another TC Blue refractor PSA 9. Not sure which direction I want to go now. But wanted opinions on the gold refractor as it caught my eye today

Thanks and I agree, especially with the last sentence.
