Here’s one: what would the hobby value a 2018 Bowman Chrome Blue /150 non auto PSA 10 since the last sale of the green version /99 PSA 10 did $7,250? Green is quite frequently less desirable and is pop 27 compared to pop 37 for the blue.

One would think the blue would go for more, no?

I was looking back through Ohtani cards I sold in 2019 & 2020 for fun. I bought and sold some really nice mid-end Ohtani's before 2021 (Update Black, Sapphire base, SSP hitting, SSP pitching). But for some reason this one bugs me the most hah. Bought for $50, spent ~$10 to grade it.

Curious to see some other members shocking sales from pre-2021.

Shocking buys…buying a Bowman Chrome for $50 they would later go for $2k. Should’ve bought them all if I was smart.

Fun story, my dad and I pulled 4 of the 50 Sho Neophyte Sensations autos in a span of maybe 8 total cases. Pulled one in the very first case I ripped back in 2018 and another a few months later. Sold the first one for like $150 through PCS. Anyway... Fast forward 5 years and we decided to rip a couple cases over a visit or two. 2 more Sho NS Autos (and a green Best of '18 auto).

Anyway, I'll return to gawking at that 001 now.

Do serial numbered cards that start with 1 sell for a premium? I was only familiar with serial numbered cards of the players actual number selling for a premium.

Yes, 'bookend' serial numbers, i.e. 1/X or X/X, sometimes bring a premium (not usually a huge one).

Some people like serial numbers with 8, because of traditional superstition/beliefs around that number.

Some people like to collect cards with a serial number matching their own birthday.

As is often the case, value is in the eye of the beholder - specific serial numbers are no exception.

And Ohtani is only 30 year old and in his prime. He will return to pitching next year. And if he ages like Ichiro (instead of like most MLB players) his decline won't start until 37. Maybe he even defies father time like Tom Brady and plays until he is 45 so he can break a ton of records. Us collectors can only hope for this type of best case scenario!
