Not sure how anyone can run that with their best time in mind. So many people in your way. Just to cut in and out of all the walkers and party people, the 6.2 miles turns into 8 or 9 miles.

We had a great time. Highly recommend the Peachtree for anyone. People handing out beers, shots, food, etc. Band playing and all kinds of music from all local stations.

I knew that was going to be a problem going in, but man it was ridiculous! Unfortunately I didn't submit a qualifying time to get into Corral A which I would've been in, so I got placed randomly in R . Entirely my fault though

I came through the first mile in a relaxed 6:38 and it was great, but then we caught up to the others...I knew it was going to be rough out of R but man, groups would be stopped dead in the road 6-7 people wide taking pictures, just standing there, etc....it was crazy. There were many times where I would have to almost slow down to a walk to get around people. My Garmin watch had me at 6.8 miles, more than a half mile extra just from trying to go side to side to get around people, let alone the times I didn't weave and almost had to stop/walk until an opening where I could get around opened. I ended up running 47:22, I thought it'd have been way slower than that though. Way, way slower than my PR but it was my fault for not submitting a time to get into a faster corral

That said, we had an amazing few days there. The expo on Tuesday was awesome, we met former Olympian Jeff Galloway, and had a great dinner. The event itself was incredibly well run. I have never seen an event get run as flawlessly as that was, the Atlanta Track Club ran that like a machine! The course was one of the coolest I have ever ran and I absolutely loved it!

Like you mention, the people passing out beer, etc was awesome! We will definitely be back next year

It's been a long hard road back but getting close to my regular times 26:49.
I'm extremely happy with that time, nice race you start in front of where the Cyclones play, run along the boardwalk and finish inside the stadium at home plate.
32:32, 29:18, 29:18 were my previous times this year.

Nice. Always good to see improvement.

I've had my 7 year old running with me the last week or so - so my times are down. But can't say no when they kid wants to put on running gear and head out.

I ran my 5k in Coronado, (just outside San Diego) on July 4th.

My time was 26:50.

Not bad considering I'm 50, but I'm hoping for a sub 25 minute mark by the end of the year. (I have a 5k turkey trot coming at the end of November)

Is this realistic?

It depends on the weather, if it's too cold it won't happen.

It depends on your improvements this far? What level you're starting from. What kinda curve you're on. You're looking at a :22 per KM decrease. That's not impossible. I've dropped :26 per KM over the past month and a bit. But i'm coming back from an injury so i kinda expected larger drops.

thanks for the responses. I appreciate the input! Thinking about doing a "warmup" race in September.

I'm still racing about every weekend even though this time of year is a huge struggle for me with the heat and humidity. I'm 6'5 and about 215 and sweat A TON. I'm putting in the miles but they seem like they aren't the best quality. I can't do my long runs of 10 plus miles on Sunday, Seems like 8 is max right now. I'm so looking forward to the fall, I have all kinds of races lined up with better running weather. Glad to read about everyone's progress!

I'm opposite. I love running in the heat. Get loose so easy. I'm only doing 9K for my long runs at the moment though. Won't be hitting your level for 3 more weeks.

Shelby Houlihan, broke the women's American Record for 5,000 meters today on the track in Belgium, 14:34. Absolutely incredible!

Good for her! Hasn't she usually been overshadowed by Simpson?

I seem to have a minor sprain in my quads from jogging yesterday. Didn't feel anything until I woke up this morning. I've iced it once already, but this is the first time I've a sprain there.

Long shot but any runners here that live in Cleveland? Going to National next week and staying downtown. Have a couple ideas of where to go for long runs but just wondering if anyone had suggestions. Thanks.

The benefit to running in the heat/humidity is that your body builds up a tolerance to it. It is essentially like when you do other kinds of exercise with the resistance turned up.

Here is a good tool to use for running in the heat. The same effort you put in during the summer to run a 8:30 mile in the summer, may get you a 7:50 mile in the fall. Also, the dew point is more of a factor than the heat. The higher the dew point the tougher it will be, with all the moisture in the air. If the dew point is mid 60's or above, your running will be impacted significantly. Anything above 70+ is extremely oppressive and really effects you

Just got back from Atlantic Beach, NC and was so excited to have been able to run in two more state parks. I know, who goes to the beach and is more excited to run in a state park?

Fort Macon State Park is the most amazing place I have ever ran. They have a 3.5 mile loop trail which half of it is in the woods, and the other half runs over sand dunes and the beach. Here is some pictures I took from the trail on two different days, one rainy day and one sunny

Did a 10K race at the airport on Sunday. It was hell. So hot. Runnng the runways in crazy heat is not something I recommend.

Hit 10 mph on the Orange Theory treadmill today and stayed there for 1 minute. Never thought I'd be able to do that.

26:36 yesterday, better than the 32: 32 the last time I ran in Prospect Park. I'm back after that infection kicked my azz. Was also fastest race this year for me.
Nice 5K next Sun. along the water by the VN bridge.

Sorry, haven't checked back of this thread but you're right! I've been looking at % of humidity but that isn't as important as dew point.
