Scout

Kudos to you for defending whom I can only assume is a good friend of yours. If you drove 11 hours to set up and split a table with Mike, you must know him well (at least mildly).

And while I can appreciate your "leave the guy alone" type of posts ... you cannot fault the people on this board for questioning each and every deal Mike has done in the last few years because of what he has proven to do. There is proof he shilled auctions, there is proof he sold fraudulent cards, there is proof he thought neither of those acts were a big deal (because he brazenly posted about them). Yes, some have gone too far in the things they've said, but pay no attention to those people ... focus only on what you know to be true / Mike Cancelliere tried to scam someone.

Now, as for what Mike should have said when he came on here; that's easy.

"To the Blowout Board.

I'm a (#*!head. I bought a cheap card that came to me more off-centered than I thought it was. Slightly angry, I decided to grab a pen that was pretty close the color of the Arcia auto, and wrote in his twitter handle. I then submitted a fraudulent card to BGS without telling them, received the card back (somewhat surprised it was graded) and decided to list it on eBay.

I then was dumb enough to tell someone what I've done, and rather than fess up to it early, tried to cover my tracks in the hopes I would not be found it. When it was clear all of the evidence showed what I had done, I was approached by a BO Mod who demanded a statement on the forums before deciding whether or not to ban me for life. That's what I have done.

I was stupid, inconsiderate, and I know what I have done was a terrible terrible thing to do. I know many will not forgive my actions, nor should they, but I can only hope that I remain on these boards long enough to work hard at instilling the trust so many have given me, and the trust I have taken for granted.

Mike Cancelliere"

So stand by Mike all you want, that's fine. But don't condone his actions, don't write them off as "no big deal" because even though this was only for $200, it is a very very big deal. Hold him accountable for what he did, and just move on.

"I have no clue who scout is, but I have read most of this thread. I dont see anything where he has condoned what mike did" = Well I've read most of the constitution and I didn't see anything in there about freedom of speech.

This is what CG had to say at the end of both meetings

After the initial confrontation with Mike things went smoothly as well. It was a very good conversation and it seems like he is going to take his lumps and push through it. He's young, he made a mistake, and I think that this will blow over for him.

More was made of this than it actually was. No one was scammed, and as high as his price was on the item I really don't think he was seriously trying to move the card.

It's a joke gone bad.

I can tell you with what I've seen at the show he is sorry and I can tell you that I personally told him mid day to stop responding because I thought it would just make it worse. I do think he meant everything he said in his response above including where he defended himself on some of the outlandish accusations that weren't related to this terrible situation. I'm not important on here, not really, and I don't think anyone cares too much what I have to say, but I hope if you are a mature adult you can try to understand that mike is 19 and royally screwed up...he hasn't seen, heard or experienced many situations that many of us have and he did a poor job handling a situation that was his own doing.

I don't know the answer. I barely know how or where to even begin to advise him to try and make things better, but there is zero need for some of the purely hate-filled responses even if negative comments and feelings are warranted. It's hard for this community to teach a 19 year old kid a lesson when members of this forum are saying some of the childish things that are being said.

Why don't we try and give a few pieces of constructive criticism to try and help Mike learn an actual life lesson even if the answer from BO is going to be a suspension or ban? Aren't we at least good enough as a community to at least try that? I literally met mike yesterday and I think he deserves at least that based on my experience.

Maybe you aren't reading into his response like a lot of people are.

He downplayed it big time as someone who watched both live. He just down want problems and I cant blame him. A person scamming on BO and EBAY has nothing to do with him and his company booth.

1) Unlike when he shill bid on ebay
2) Uhhh, it was supposed to be a super rare card where all the rest have gone for big money. If it was a joke, why not list it for BIN of $1.99? That would have been funny. Or BIN for $1,000,000.

I posted a link of the original thread from yesterday on the Beckett boards to see if anyone from Beckett had anything to say about the inscription card and the thread was whacked in a matter of hours lol.

Bingo.

His initial response was that he pulled it like that, then his response to getting caught was "haha damn". Clearly a big joke, just having some fun.

There's a ton of members on this forum with a great sense of humor but none of us have ever made that "joke".

Where there's smoke there's fire. That's all I'm saying.

I'm fairly confident I'm done with this ordeal. There's still some stuff to figure out but that's on someone else lol

Adults say and do the right thing regardless of fanboy bashing. Your source must have been cut out of what ever deal MC had and is now retaliating. ( I haven't read the whole post, just my thoughts up to this point) Why else would he pal around with him and then say stuff behind his back. A true friend would slap him in the face and tell him to grow the Eff up and not try and pull stuff like this.

I think not. He is still able to conduct himself within the hobby. Just because he was banned from here does not mean that he should not exposed further. Members here quite often are members elsewhere, on Ebay and go to shows. So no, it is not over.

Let me say that just because you conduct business with someone does not make them a friend. We as members here, mostly do not even know what the other people look like. I do agree a true friend would have put him in his place but how many people around here and in the hobby are real friends? I would say not many.

I would absolutely think twice now about doing another submission with him. He has not scammed me, and I know this for a fact. I didnt send him any cards without a printed serial number on the card. It is hard to swap out one of those. I can see how it would be possible on other cards for him to do that.

I thought I'd post something positive, because until now Mike was a well respected member. Hopefully these mistakes are isolated incidents.
