Very few breakers are shipping base cards...they're either creating a separate spot or auctioning off...is it greed or just laziness or both!

They don't want to sort 120,000 paper cards on a 40 case break

Houdini did the same thing.

Very few things more obnoxious than big breakers castigating their regular audience for not bidding as high as they want them to or leaving open breaks.

The Bad:
- I was missing an auto in 2 of my boxes (one box had 4 autos, so that made up for 1 of the missing autos)
- Out of 23 autos....13 base, 3 refractor, and 2 purple
- Lots of dud packs....no auto or parallel of any sort (paper or chrome). Just lots of paper, chrome, and 1 insert packs.
- The autos were in the same spot/row in every box. I opened all the other packs and saved my autos for last.

The Good:
Collation looks pretty good, but I need to finish sorting
I got EXTREMELY lucky with one card or it would have been a bloodbath

I hit a Jac Caglianone speckle refractor auto #/71!!
(and yes, I have it priced high on ebay. Shoot for the moon, right? )

I watched box reviews on Youtube and saw a lot of 2 base/1 refractor auto boxes and was definitely nervous about opening. I had good reason to be nervous! Most boxes ended up with 2 base autos and a refractor auto and/or purple auto. I only got the speckle #/71, a gold #/50, a green #/99, a blue #/150, and a blue wave #/150.

I know 99% of the people on here already know this, but rip this product if you dare...it will be very bad for most people.
That was gutsy opening a personal case! I'm seeing a lot of breaks on hobby, "formerly known as jumbo" and your numbers seem to be par for the course on hobby. It looks like 2:1 or even 3:1 on base to numbered. And when it's numbered, there's at least one insert in there. This seems to be an absolute bloodbath for hobby. HTA seems to have 2 numbered and one base in each box...Usually the HTA mojo and one other numbered and a base. This is just awful for regular collectors not going through breaks of HTA. I really hope people see this early and slow down on buying into breaks so the prices stop going up.

This is fairly common. Lots of people don't want paper base, breakers don't want to sort it and there's also lots of people who are happy to buy the paper base spot.

If you bought a spot of a player for $10,000, you wouldn't want the paper of that player?

The main reason is highlighted....

Seems par for the course with Topps to try and maximize value before the IPO hits.
Way back when, Draft had blaster boxes. Don't recall when that stopped, but I definitely enjoyed opening random blasters in 2005. Hit several solid refractors and xfractors.

There is still prospecting like the good old days, this is where the smart get back in the game and the weak minded leave.

Do you really think the guy who spends 10k on a single player spot gives a damn about the paper base? Really?

I ripped 7 super jumbos today and am left with mixed feelings on how I did. I hit some good names on autos, but they were sticker insert variety autos.

Bazzana Gold Class of 2024 Auto /50
Crews In Action Auto /99
Kurtz Lava In Action Auto /75
Tibbs Plasma Auto /99

Chrome 1st autos were largely underwhelming. Cam Caminiti x2, Carson Benge, Kellon Lindsey & Griff O’Ferrell being the best.

I haven’t sorted chrome yet, but it seemed like the same names kept popping up over and over so I won’t be surprised if I failed to compete even 1 chrome set.

No color better than gold /50 on anything.

Not that I participate in many breaks (particularly Bowman), but in fairness, I think most breakers say in the description that base paper is not included and will be a separate spot, so isn’t it the bidders’ fault for spending too much if they want paper?

When I opened my case of Draft in 2017, the one thing I regret is not running my big hits at one day auction. Due to the rapid price depreciation, IMO that is the best way to maximize value. Better than holding out for a high BIN/BO. Better than grading. Better than everything.

Looking at the current prices of Caglianone, let's say you get $1,200 for that baby. Where does that put you overall on the case? ie, how much do you expect to get from everything else besides that? Without knowing what else you got (besides the Caglianone non-auto Purple) I would guess you are still getting crushed, but not sure of that.

The amount of people posting insert autos at over $1k is insane. I feel like every release there is a chance the insanity will slow down but it only ever gets worse.

When one company controls everything this is what happens. Fanatics is going to squeeze every last penny out of the consumer to see where the breaking point is.

Those overpriced singles likely wont sell, but gamblers are desperate to recoup the cost of this massively overpriced product so have to hope someone bites.

You are right about running auctions, but I hate auctions due to people bidding it up and not paying. If his base refractor auto #/499 is selling for around $650 I would think I would get a decent number for an auto #/71. Having said that, even if I only got $1200 at auction I would still do decent overall on the case. I know that's difficult to know without seeing the full break, but I also got base autos of Bazzana and Griffin. Sets will also help me recoup around $750+. I got perfect collation on the refractors as well and am only 8 refractors short of a set, so that should sell well.

I guess we'll see how things shake out, but I know I am VERY lucky to even have a chance to break even. If it wasn't for the Caglionone auto, I'd be in bad shape.

I sold a Gold Class of 2021 Insert Refractor of Henry Davis for $1K on NYE 2021. It was a redemption too

That's good to know. It means all the other stuff has to be worth over $3,000 for the case (assuming ~$4800 paid). That would mean the floor for a case has to be pretty close to $3000. If that's the case , then $4800 isn't terrible.

Speckle /71 goes for about 2-2.5x the refractor /499. The first refractor sold for $660, but the other two (when I had last checked a couple of hours ago) were $550 and $500. I think $1200 would be a really good price even with the insanity of opening week pricing. Of course in a week everything will be 2/3 of that. In a month half. Similar rated/ranked prospects from established sets are half or more below that half!
