I just consider it a Popular (as opposed to "Pop") Music Hall of Fame, so I'm good with a wide swath of genres, as long as it's the best from what they did.
My hope is those inducted get in while they're still in good enough form musically (and physically) to be able to play some of their songs, and also, when it's a duo/group, the members don't hate each other too much to play together, even for this honor. We'll see with Foreigner, I guess...

I do greatly look forward to the live performances from the ceremony. There's some good stuff there every year, including younger performers singing in tribute to those who can't.

Now, this I 100% agree with. It may be the greatest post ever made on Blowout.

The 2025 Class has been annunced:

Bad Company
Chubby Checker
Joe Cocker
Cyndi Lauper
Outkast
Soundgarden
The White Stripes

Disappointed that nominees Billy Idol & Joy Division/New Order didn't make the cut, but still, a pretty good list. No Chris Cornell or Joe Cocker to perform sadly, and I doubt Chubby Checker will be doing much Twistin' at age 83, but hopefully he's still healthy enough to attend the ceremony, which will be in Los Angeles this year. Should be a fun live show, as usual.

Aside from the performer category, Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon (d. 2003) get the Musical Influence award. Producer/songwriter Thom Bell (d. 2022), pianist/organist Nicky Hopkins (d. 1994), and bass guitarist Carol Kaye (of the celebrated session musicians "The Wrecking Crew") are getting the Musical Excellence Award. Producer and longtime president of Warner Records, Lenny Waronker, is this year's Ahmet Ertegun Award recipient.

Congrats to all those honored.

Great class. The others will get in eventually. As for Chubby Checker, he’s still touring. Granted, at his age anything can happen, but if the ceremony were today, he’d be there twisting the night away.

Why is Chubby Checker going into the HOF? If he is in they need to let in the guy that did The Monster Mash.

The dance craze was big for Rock & Roll when it hit, and Checker was the king of that. The prevailing idea appears that he should've been in long ago. From the "Hot 100 era" which began in 1958, most recently measured in 2021, "The Twist" is the second biggest hit of that entire span.

With rappers, I'm good with the highly skilled ones getting in.
Andre 3000 from Outkast is famously listed in his lyric where Eminem names all he considers better than himself, with the majority of the entire list (Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, Andre, and Eminem himself) now having been inducted. Mathers was being modest as he was, by the release of that song, "Till I Collapse", already the greatest of all-time. At any rate, it's good news for the prospects of Redman, Kurupt, Nas, and Jadakiss, the others mentioned. Not sure who else from that genre will get the call in the meantime, but Kendrick Lamar will almost certainly be in the Class of '36, his first year eligible.

Cyndi Lauper in before Joy Division/New Order and Billy Idol.

What a joke.

.

Why isn't Boston in yet? Can't get much more Rock than having a hit single called Rock and Roll band. I would have figured they were in 10 years ago.

I've got a big list of acts I'd put in, including many of those most commonly mentioned by others.
Unfortunately, I have no pull or sway with the R&R HOF.

As passionate as I am about music all I can say is ...whatever.
Award shows and the RRHOF have never aligned with my tastes and I've learned to accept it.

Well, Chubby Checker did have 7 top 10 hits. Also his biggest hit, "The Twist" is the only song in the Rock Era to hit #1 in two different years (1960 and 1962). That's a little better than a guy who had one parody song hit.

Lol no way Kurupt gets in. The other half of Tha Dogg Pound Daz Dillinger is way more talented anyway when you factor producing into the equation. Kurupt fell off nearly 30 years ago when he started spitting jewels like:

“B**** n**** you more of a b**** than a b****”

Maybe Eminem just needed a two-syllable name for that line, and at the time (2002), it seemed like Kurupt had more to give. I'll take your word for it as I'm not very familiar with Kurupt (or Daz Dillinger or even Jadakiss) at all but I did see the TV-One "Unsung" episode about him a few years ago.

One of my favorite rock and roll albums is OutKast’s ATLiens. Fantastic all the way through.

Still waiting on Billy Squier. Probably won't make it, but I'll be waiting.
